Was this person right for tell me that I’m not the best shape to join the hiking trip?

So I joined this Christian club at my college and I do enjoy going to the weekly meeting. It’s from 2 to 3. Anyways they’re going on a hike in three weeks and I asked the president about the details and how to keep up. He told me the details but that something they threw me off is when he mentioned my weight. He said, “Well if you’re planning to go with us, you’re going to have to keep up and be in good shape because to put it bluntly, you’re not on the best shape. But hey you can come if you want. Nobody is stopping you. We just need people that are in shape and able to keep up.” Wow, that really hurt my feelings. I’m a big girl. I’m tall at 5’10, overweight at about 229lbs and a size 18W. People would not believe me if I told them because I am tall and carry it well. Any times on getting shape in three weeks? Do you think it’s wrong about what he said to me? Most people that are going are either thin or in good shape. Some of the heavy, fat people didn’t sign up.
