Would it be odd for me to take 3 days to go camping and hiking alone?

Tell them you need your alone time and that is not negotiable. Go and clear your head, take a break from life.
I have gone alone on holiday many times; family has taken care of themselves.
You are the most important person in your life. Take care of yourself in all aspects: physically, emotionally, spiritually.
having alone time for any reason and anywhere is a healthy and okay thing to do but just be safe if you do go alone.

Before you set off, read Cheryl Strayed's book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12262741-wild It addresses many of the pitfalls of taking off on a hike while being ill-prepared for it.
Whatever you choose, make sure you are fully prepared, mentally, physically and knowledge-wise. Educate yourself as much as possible, and then educate yourself some more. How will you get help if you are injured? How will you deal with potential dangers? Are there reasons you wouldn't want to find someone in your same situation to hike with?
I appreciate the concern but this wouldn’t be my first solo trip.
Oh I know, but the whole point is to go alone, to get away from it all
Have things been good between you and your husband? If not then you are probably best not to go cause it could Cause more conflict in your relationship, if things have been good between the both of you then. It shouldn’t really matter , the thing with couples taking
Time apart from each other usually leaves the 1 partner worried sick over their partner , that something bad is going to happen , people that love each other shouldn’t really need space from each other , when someone needs space in a relationship then that’s a red flag that something is off , If your husband is pushing
You to go that can be a bad sign as well that he wants space from you , So honestly I don’t know how I would feel knowing my wife is out in the woods by herself I would be worried about her that something bad could happen
You have a really good point. We are doing well, though both of us are tired and worn out. Its not that I need space away from him, I just need some personal time to recharge. He is alright with my little trip since he goes on hunting and fishing trips pretty regularly in the late summer and fall. Having time to myself out in nature is cathartic and recharging.
Heck, no.
Inappropriate? I don't think that is the word I would use - - - - - -
It might be hard to do , maybe even a bit dangerous, but that is a whole other ball game from the psychology of it all which deals with relational habits. This deals with your camping and MacGyvering skills. If you are a reasonably proficient camper, it sounds like a great way to relax, rejuvenate and recharge.
When driving our daughter to college in the south, we even found some City Halls and Chamber of Commerce Offices where visitors were allowed to "crash for the night" in the parking lot (in tent, RV, or even just their car) until they could find lodging the next day. But if you left the next day - - - - - - - - - -
Good luck and enjoy your trek.
I think that's a great idea, but if you are not experienced then do the research and be properly equipped as backpacking out in the wilderness does come with some risks that could be fatal. Not to scare you as it's not that big a deal if you are properly prepared, but I think we covered this on your other similar post on the same subject.
Personally, I think you absolutely should. Your husband/family may disagree, but alone time is important. It's the airline mask thing. You have to put on your own mask before you help others put on theirs. Same with the rest of life, you have to take care of yourself before you are able to take care of others (for long).
Let Dad handle it for a few days and take care of you.
Of course not, plenty of campers and thru-hikers go solo. Just be informed and use resources to help you get started. When you solo camp or hike, you're 100% responsible for your safety. Even something as simple as misty fog can reduce visibility to mere metres, so learn to use map and compass readings and know your emergency contacts in case you get in a bad situation.
There's is some powerful spiritual healing when you go out in the wilderness all by yourself. I'd say it would be a great thing. And if you are religious it's even better because you get to enjoy the created nature.
However, I wouldn't go without some protection, like a firearm and pepper spray.
I used to go hiking backpacking all the time I thoroughly enjoyed it but in the last past few years there's just been too many things going on if you ever watch 441 missing people it's people that have went hiking camping backpacking hunting they can be talking to their friend for one second and next thing you know they're gone
https://youtu. be/KeWnkS32KCE
For me, maybe yes because if anything happens to you, there's nobody who can help you. At least you need one person to accompany with you. Maybe your friend. Besides, being alone can also lead to depression. It is true that sometimes we need me time, but in a place where you can be found and your safety is secure. Maybe you can go somewhere else instead of camping and hiking alone.
Take a weapon.
You don't want some woman all alone to run into some stranger in the middle of no where... or a dangerous animal.
Those 2 European girls went hiking/camping alone in Morocco and they were raped and beheaded.
You need more of a plan... more safe guards. People need to know where you are so if you disappear they know where to start looking. Have your phone charged, be armed.
Don't be some naive, get into trouble camper.
Solo camping is different than group camping, but I think it's awesome.
I have on numerous occasions, and have found it to be very enjoyable.
You can do what you want, when you want, the way you want.
Have a good time!
No, I don’t think so. I would just stress the importance of need-to-know knowledge about the area you’re going to camp in and personal safety as well since you’re by yourself.
But go ahead and go by yourself. It can be quite refreshing.
3days is not much lol.
Everyone needs break but family members worry when alone and you are not going to talk to them whole 3 days thoughts arise in mind for any one who cares for you.
Just prepare your family mentally and make a 15min call each day and both of you will be happy I guess, they will know you ate safe.
How was yo camping lol no updates?
I haven't gone yet. Im planning to go in September
Go for it! I took a week vacation last year and did a road trip through 4 states and did some amazing hiking! It was the mental vacation I desperately needed then. I say so it, and enjoy it!
Everyone needs a break once in awhile so I don’t think it’s weird to want to go on a trip by yourself. However, this is my personal opinion, I feel like camping would be more of group vacation than single one. I feel like it’s more enjoyable and fun that way but if that’s what you want to do, then go for it!
I think lots of people enjoy having some alone time and camping by yourself would not be inappropriate at all. Go For It
As long as you're careful and you be safe about it, I don't see the problem. Everyone needs a little break sometimes.
Are you an experienced camper? Also, research the area where you are going.
Yes I am
sounds fun... just make sure you take a cell phone and someone knows where you are
Yeah though where Id be going wouldn't have cell reception, but id for sure let people know where I would be.
not at all! just be prepared have anything and everything you can think of and be safe.
My wife does that quite often. It is therapeutic for her... and me.
Everyone needs some alone time doing something they love. If camping is your thing then go for it.
No, just make sure you are safe and somebody knows exactly where you are. It might be really energizing. I would like to do this myself.
Oh Fuck No! Some of the best trips are the trips you go on alone.
I have been so stressed at work lately that a three vacation (camping, hiking, kayaking) sounds like fun! I would say go for it!
No but be careful as no one will be there to help if something happens.
Unless you’ve been out there and you think there’s nobody around and you have a lot of experience it’s not safe and if anything you better carry a loaded handgun with you at all times. Also watch out for bears
Lol why is everyone so scared of bears, I have been camping every summer my entire life and the only time I’ve ever seen a bear was once 6 years ago while I was deer hunting.
I’m Oregon the only bears we have are black bears which aren’t really aggressive unless threatened, cougars would be a bigger threat here in Oregon.
NoI done it a lot, I like winter camping More challenging
I think it's okay for you to go camping but going alone as a woman is something you need to reconsider
@Subarugirl Well, better take a gun with you or some type self defense
I always do
@Subarugirl Ok
If you have the skills to solo camp then why not, everyone need 'alone' time every once in a while.
No have at it girl we all need a break from the world sometimes
No, but there are bad things and people in the woods.
I'm a low key badass and I don't camp solo, it's asking for trouble.
There are bad things everywhere, I’m more likely to be drugged and raped in a bar than attacked by someone out in the middle of nowhere. As for the animals… I grew up camping and hunting with my family. None of us have ever had any issues.
Even hunters go missing all the time. Seriously go listen to the missing 411 stuff on mr ballens YouTube channel. Obviously some of his stuff is fiction but the missing 411stuff is probably true and most likely indicating a bunch of active copycat serial killers who stalk north American parks.
There's people out there making sport of solo campers specifically.
Yes, there's lots of danger in the city, but in the woods the law doesn't even give those kinds of people pause.
But hey you do you, just maybe pack some heat and set a trip wire alarm around your camp.
There are always horror stories, I grew up camping and hunting with my family and the wilderness doesn’t frighten me. I respect it, and the danger that it can have but I feel safer walking alone in the woods than I do walking down the street alone in the city I live.
Nothing wrong with it. Just for safety, make sure your family knows where you'll be going.
No way, I plan on doing that myself some day. Just be careful.
It's alright as long as your husband is okay with it.
If he's not, it might make new problems in your relationship

Don't worry there will be some hungry bears to keep you company.
I'm not at all worried about bears lol
This is what happens when people try to be parents and have a career.
It's too much and you end up burnt out and avoiding your family.
You're making it sound like you never need a little personal time and space, lol. I'm not avoiding my family, I'm taking some time for my self to rest and recharge.
Raising children is a 24 hour a day job, 365 days a year.
I hope yours are older so that your husband isn't stuck to care for them by himself after working all week.
Then he will be stressed and burnt out too.
Pretty soon will come the separation because you both want to get away and have days to yourself.
If you're honestly this stressed maybe you need to sit down with your husband and work out a better schedule or system so that it doesn't get to this point.
Maybe one of you is working too much or with the kids too much or there's just no balance.
Ideally it's healthier if the family can take vacations together and be functional.
Just my opinion.
Actually it was his idea that I take some time to myself. Personally I don't think its a bad thing, it's important to have some individuality. We are both of us stressed and burnt out, not really much either of us can do about that.
He's trying to be nice, but trust me, he's gonna end up resenting you if you make a habit of this.
Children are wonderful, but they're exhausting there's just no way around it.
You either help each other and split the responsibility or one of you is always gonna be run down and looking for an escape.
My ex wife used to do the same thing.
Only she would dissapear for 3 days with some other guy and leave me with a small child.
I would even have to take him to work with me.
One time the poor kid was sick with a fever and I had to take him to work because his useless mother took off for 3 days.
It can be rough.
I take over and watch our child and coordinate when he goes on his hunting a fishing trips. I don't see how this is different. He is just as capable of watching our 4 year old as I am when he's gone.
Fair enough.
I didn't know that he takes off on you too.
When I was raising my son all I did was work, buy groceries and take care of him for years.
It was only my ex wife who would take off all the time so you can see why this is a painful topic for me.
I hope it all works out for your family.
Yeah, it’s weird for you to abandon your family for a few days to go camping alone. Why not invite your family or have some of your friends go with you? Why do you feel the need to go away alone for a few days?
Because its cathartic to be out in nature, quiet and undistracted. Its recharging. You never feel the desire to just get away for a day or two by your self to recharge?
Don’t do it.

Hahaha, bears are the very least of my worries lol
Honestly, though, it’s not a good idea to hike or camp alone.
Depends on your skill level and experience camping. If your well seasoned than it's fine. If not things can go wrong and you won't know how to deal with them. Expecially if your backpacking.
Not at all.
Just make sure some one knows where you'll be at all times just in case.
Never go hiking alone says my uncle who is a military instructor.
No I know people that do that. But as a female it could be dangerous. If you do make sure you let people know your route and check in regularly.
It’s just as dangerous for a man to go alone. I am just as capable as most men, if not more so to spend 2 nights alone lol
Sorry to disagree with you but but it is very rare that someone see's a guy all alone and thinks " wow I could just go and rape him" so no matter how good you can defend yourself. You are way more likely to HAVE to defend yourself than a guy.
@sponge-bob than I will but I’ve never had to before
It wouldn't be inappropriate but it would be risky for sure. It always helps to have company.
I don't know, what if bears were attracted to you!
Would mind bears going sexual on you! I don't think so
#bearrape
Not really but maybe not safe, how about just getting away for a few days at a spa resort
Because id rather go camping.. and resorts are a lot more expensive than a 2 night camping trip
Ok, I guess you’re used to it
Not at all, its actually extremely theraputic
not "inappropriate" but i'd say risky.
I dong think so. Go for it.
It's a good way to get a break.
Not necessarily but it does sound scary be safe.
I think it sounds like fun and relaxing
take precautions and yes, absolutely. have fun.
I want to go solo camping
Not sure how safe it will be for a woman alone.. u cud lock itself in one room instead
I meant urself.. damn this spell check
U have such beautiful boobs too.. I m sure it will not be safe for u
Im guessing it would be about as safe as it would be for a man to go alone.
If you like horror movies.
When all you have is you nothing is inappropriate
No but could be dangerous
Of course not, go for it. It'll be refreshing
Absolutely!
You should bring me cause you won’t survive
lol actually I think that I am more than capable
Ok don’t upset the grizzly
There aren’t any Grizzlies in Oregon lol
Bigfoot even worse!
