My father was a doctor and when he retired in the early 1990s he remarked how glad he was to be getting out of the profession at that time because he said it was nothing like the one that he signed up for 50 years earlier.

He said it wasn't about giving people thoughtful care anymore but about getting them in and out of the office as quickly as possible and handing them a prescription so you could generate more bills. That just wasn't what he was about during his entire career. Yes he was successful financially but that was because there were so many patients lined up who were on a waiting list just to see him. He cared about every patient and never overbooked.

Until 2 years ago I took care of both of my parents in the last years of their lives. It was a 15-year project. I must have taken them to hundreds of doctors during that time. But since I left my career to take care of them I have not been to a single doctor for myself. That means it's been about 20 years since I've been to a doctor.

I'm not recommending this to anyone, but for me it has worked out great. I don't take any medications, I'm in better shape than most 20-something guys, I work out regularly, have the body of a bodybuilder, and weigh the same as I did when I was in high school. I never get sick, I never even get headaches and rarely ever have a day when I don't feel energetic.

I decided that as long as I feel this way I'm going to stay away from doctors. It's a combination of mistrust and skepticism. Virtually everyone I know my age is on medications of some kind particularly the ones that are prescribed to just about everyone. There's a little bit of religious belief in this choice of mine. I believe that God designed our bodies to take care of themselves and I'm skeptical of putting all these foreign things inside it.

Even I am not convinced that I'm right. I sometimes have doubts. But of course I will never know until my final day whether or not it was a good choice. As the saying goes "I plan to live forever. So far so good."

I became very ill in the Spring of 2000. I was bedridden for 15-1/2 years and the last 6 months were spent in a wellness center which got me all better. It was hard work though.
But from the beginning I had excellent insurance and I think that was my downfall because every single doctor I saw wouldn't send for test results from previous doctors and get the results.
Therefore, I was way over tested and after about into my 13th year I woke up one day and said THAT'S IT! NO MORE DOCTORS AND NO MORE TESTS! I just saw one doctor and he undiagnosed me and was diagnosed with a completely different illness.
So I still see him after all these years.

My point is that none of those specialists - even the ones at the very best hospitals didn't help me one bit and I was on very strong pain medicine for years.

Wow that's some story! And unfortunately I don't think it's much different than the typical story. There's an awful lot of incompetence in the medical profession today and they are missing the element that my father had. It's an industry now not a profession. Sorry to hear all the troubles you had. I lost trust in the medical profession many years ago in part because my dad opened my eyes to what's going on in that industry.

@RingOfFire I am lucky to have a wife who is in the medical profession. She helps me sort through the bullshit. Still I resist meds and try to cure myself on my own. I am trying to make my own life expectancy.

That is excellent. My father passed away in 2019. Until the end he was my go-to person to give me guidance on how to stay healthy. He thought, and I agree largely from what I learned from him that doctors way over prescribed medications. It's partly because the way things are today they can't spend the time with you to tell you how to do things naturally or to at least try those things first and it's partly because they just don't care.

There are so many people taking so many medications that they don't need.

A very well regarded doctor got my mother hooked on opioids. I didn't even know about it because it was before I took responsibility for her care.

After I started taking over her care I was going to the doctor's visits with her and I was shocked at what was happening. My mother was addicted so the first thing she would ask her was whether or not she could prescribe some more of the opioids. And she did with no questions asked. I could not believe what I was seeing.

They had diagnosed her with one of those BS conditions and that was the doctor's excuse. I immediately dumped that doctor that she had been seeing for it at least two decades and got a new one. I did not even tell the new doctor about the condition she was diagnosed with by that other doctor.

And I did not list that medication on her list of medications.

She never had any problems related to that condition and never took that medication again. But it took me two years to get rid of her addiction. I found pill bottles hidden everywhere in her room in the drawers and all over the house.

It's still outrageous me to this day.

Your wife sounds like a great source of information for you. Keep up the great work!

I learned about all this stuff when I was diagnosed with high cholesterol about 20 years ago. I tried to fix it by not eating fatty foods but it really made no difference so i had to be put on meds.

People in risk group should make all two years blood test for damaged heart tissue markers. Bypasses or stents can be installed if necessary before it's too late.

cause typically we don't measure for problems before there's signs that you're having these problems. otherwise you'd be screened for all sorts of shit all the time and you know how expensive the medical pharmaceutical complex is. it's a cost thing. like you wouldn't get an exray for a broken leg if there's no symptoms with your legs. same with blood values. you don't typically assess them unless there's some problem. no need to fix a running system.
