Why do people go to the gym when buying home equipment is cheaper and more convenient overall?

Even if you spent around $5000 dollars it would work out a lot cheaper than paying a monthly gym membership for most of your adult life.

A good gym gives you access to all kinds of specialty equipment. But... you can hit all the major muscle groups with body weight exercises and a few pieces of equipment at home. So, if you're not a body builder do you need the variety of equipment in a gym?

Also working out at home can be done on your schedule. At 7AM or 11PM. You don't waste time and gas driving to and from a gym. There's no time spent waiting for equipment. So you're more likely to actually get a workout in.

Home gyms don't need to take up a ton of space. Or cost a lot of money. I have 3 pieces of equipment. 2 of them store vertically and take up about 2 square feet of floor space when not in use. Body weight exercise and running take up no space.

I've had a home gym for about 25 years.

Water rower, hits 80% of muscles in body. Great workout.

Folds and stores vertically

450 lb capacity. Add up to 100 lbs of steel plate.

The weight bench does not fold up. Takes up about 8 square feet of space. The are wheels in back that make it easy to move. Weighs 106 lbs. Supports 1,500 lbs.

In addition to the resistance equipment I run and hike. Mostly trails with lots of hills.

Yes, there is an initial outlay in working out from home, but overall it's way cheaper and more convenient.

Pull up bar, gymnastic rings, parallettes. £100

30kg good quality weight vest (though you can get very far with unweighted if you're not a cheat...). £140.

This enables you to do weighted ring dips, weighted pullups, tuck inverted ring rows (both feet off the ground) and weighted ring pressups. If you use good controlled form and range of motion, that 30kg is going to get you very far.

Now the issue is more around legs. You can get a cheap squat rack and possibly some cheap weights somewhere.

But overall, for a decent set of equipment which will last you a lifetime, I guess you're looking at £800 for a decent squat rack and set of weights, bar bell etc.

Having said that, you probably do other stuff such as bulgarian split squats, step ups etc, in which case, it can be much cheaper.

I have been asking that question for decades. Half the time, I think men just like checking out the other men. That is only the only reason that makes any logical sense. We have a home gym that is just as good, if not better than anything you can find in any gym, and we bought it all on the cheap.

But you don't even need a gym. You can be extremely fit without any equipment whatsoever.

Most people don't have the spare space required for that. Most people also don't have enough money to feel comfortable dropping a ton of money at once on Workout equipment.

Depends what you are doing and how much space you have. Most gym equipment take up space in a house and gyms will have a verity of equipment.

I agree but my current equipment cost me $50 but I am seriously wanting a gravity strider but can't find one anywhere

You grew up with money lol. A lot of people dont have the space and would rather spend a small fee each month instead of a large flat fee.

Because people like being around other people. Also you can be held accountable by workout friends. Most people end up hanging their laundry on home gym equipment.
