What do you think of phony online personalities?

Does this sound familiar?

Someone, either Girl or Guy, is miserable with their work, finances, dating life, or anything else. So when they go online, they create a fantasy world where they have:
* The perfect work environment where they get everything they ask for and everyone obeys them
* The greatest track record of stock trading, picking up dates, you name it

And based on their god status within their online fantasy world, they respond condescendingly to other posters. They ridicule other posters for perceived mistakes. They act so smug and superior to everyone else. They say things that they would not have the courage to say to someone's face in real life.

It is one thing if their online personalities are obviously intended as a joke, as obnoxious as they may be. But is it healthy for disgruntled people to represent themselves online as something they are not?

I'm one of the obnoxious, joke personalites a lot of the time. At least I hope people realize I'm joking. (I am NOT a narcissist RL. Really 🤣) But to start crossing lines trying to get others to believe your something you're not is just a dangerous lie to themselves.

I mean eventually their facade will have to crumble and then what? Sometimes those are the ones who go postal when they find themselves with no one left to lie to. Alone with the one who knows it was all a lie from the start and ultimately, the only one they ever have to answer to. The one in the mirror.

They’re exhausting.

Everyone adjusts themselves a little online, that’s normal.

But when someone builds a whole fake version of who they are, it usually comes from insecurity or wanting validation more than connection.

I don’t judge it, but I don’t trust it either.

Real people are imperfect, and that’s what makes them relatable.

When someone feels too polished or too “performative,” it’s hard to take them seriously, you’re talking to a mask, not a person.

If they want to be fake they are lying to themselves, their only damaging themselves deeper and deeper. I only lie to like the police when they accidentally caught me looking kinda 🥴 I was like officer I just got of work. 2. Had an ex police v8 car , was like 3 miles from my house, I was like let's see what you can do baby (eduardo) floors it, accidentally as I flew by I see a cop😣😭. I rush to escape, he saw me. i make up a great lie works 😆. Those are the worst fake lies I've said. I'm myself online and in real life no need to be fake 👍

There's one, possibly two that left opinions on this question. I think it is funny that they actually believe people don't see through their bullshit lol Such busy and amazing lives but yet, they are on this site every waking hour. Another one blocked me when I was on to her.

I couldnt be close to such people because usually they are extremely materialistic and only care about image and having convo with them is very hard. They dont have depth and talk superficial things that urks me...

I especially hate the fake women who think we don't know they're really guys, they come on here and post a flurry of responses to only the sexual questions, and say things no woman would ever say. Then there's the ones who wait to see what real women say, and they say some version of the exact same thing. It's very obvious to all of us.

Most of them do it for fun, or to entertain others.  Some of them do it because it's often better to live in a fantasy world.
