You explain to your boss you couldn't phone because your mobile was in the other room and you've got white carpets. He's an understanding chap and he'll let you off, just as long as you fill out sick form with NO SPELLING MISTAKES.

The question is can you spell the D word without a dictionary or spell check?

Answer both are correct, just American v English spelling. Don't mix them up, or I'll call the grammar police.

I don't know how they spell in England, let alone Wales, but it is spelled diarrhea in America.

You could also say "the runs," "the squirts", "the trots," "Montezuma's revenge," or "Delhi belly".

The official spelIing as I knew was "diarrhoea", although a little doubt forced me to check in the Oxford Dictionary. Nevertheless, here in Brussels one sometimes refers to that annoying phenomenon as "avoir le corridor en bas" (to have the hallway down ;0) although I have some doubts either about the correct translation of "corridor", which originally in dialect may have been "corrida", which in its turn might mean "the runs"...

Interesting in Spanish it is called diarrea almost like in English but we often don't use the h between words.
