Does anyone else hate it when people say someone is “so brave” for fighting cancer, or that they’re “so strong” and will beat it?

They literally can’t control what happens to their body. And does that mean the people who died of cancer weren’t fighters, or were losers who didn’t fight hard enough?

i think calling it "brave" is idiotic. cause it's not like you had a choice. having no choice but to fight is despair, not brave. and yeah it needs mental strength for sure but I don't know how much of it is actually just luck and chances. either way i think these words don't really validate the traumatic time you had to go through. it's fucked up.

No I don't. Someone may not have been able to help if they got cancer or not, but they can help how they respond to it. I've known people who have fought it, and I've known people who gave up, got on pain meds and waited around to die.
