Am I an a-hole for laughing at someone for having cancer? please read description?

So basically a guy that I knew a couple years ago, he ruined a lot of friendships and relationships that I had. He’d spread rumours about me, he exposed my job to my friends parents, overall he was horrible to me. I’ve hated him since.

Yesterday a friend told me that this guy had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer and I laughed. It was an automatic response and my first thought was “good riddance”. But my friend looked at me like I was a monster, and I told my mom about me laughing and she said I’m an a-hole. Am I really? I know that what he did to me doesn’t warrant him deserving cancer but I don’t feel sorry for him at all.

And no, this is not a troll question. I’m being serious.

I told my sister it was a shame the cancer didn't kill her before telling her the cancer was karma for her. I said this because she legit ruined my birthing experience and my birth photos, and she had the audacity to than go and make false reports to child services trying to have my baby taken off me, and when that didn't work, she than tried and failed multiple times to have me and my baby put out on the streets. She than went and told people I have herpes when my medical reports show what I have is psoriasis not herpes. She also posted my private details online which than caused me to start getting random phone calls and a whole heap of spam emails. She accused me of stalking her even when it has been her who has stalked me. Many years ago she took a bunch of guys to our grandfather home and those guys tried to steal from our pop, they had also scared Pop.

So I can sympathise with you when it comes to laughing at someone having cancer. If I found out my sister had cancer again I would probably laugh

I mean it’s a filter lapse. Sure you don’t owe him your forgiveness and he was clearly an asshole. But if your friends and family believed that they’re not your friends and family.


Personally to me if someone was a trash human I’m not going to feel bad that they’re dying but I also have a poker face and control of my filter lol so while I may thing good riddance or want to laugh I’d just say that’s a shame in a monotone

Those weren't your friends if they believed rumors and let them ruin your friendship. He sounds like he just exposed how shallow your life was and you didn't like it.
