This is probably sexist, but...

Almost all of the women I know go barefoot. Those who didn't had been abused and were ashamed of their feet or had injured them and didn't want to "gross people out."

Men, however, rarely seem to. We might have as boys, but when we got older, we stopped. The military might change this, or martial arts, but it's kind of like a boxers vs briefs thing. The exception might be gay men. Most of the ones I know go barefoot. But, this doesn't really mean a lot since they're a small number of country boys.

I've read that girls start off barefoot and never change, just because they are different, physically. I do know most of the girls I've known dislike shoes and even risk injury by not wearing them. Boys, however, end up "working" more and have to protect their feet, usually with boots.

I was taught differently. Nudity was forbidden, even if it was our feet. It was acceptable for some people, who were looked down on, but not for us. Probably typical white BS, racism. But, then, I was also taught not to intrude into someone's home unless it was very important.

Socks in the winter: marble floors are cold.

Barefoot in the summer: marble floors inside are nice and cold, terrace tiles outside are nice and warm.
