How can I stop secondhand marijuana smoke from my neighbor’s unit?

this was never an issue before where i lived but the unit beside me had been vacant for a while after long time tenant moved out and this new family just moved in.

my unit is actually on the second floor and appears someone from there unit opens the back door late at night and smokes marijuana outside , i usually leave my window open especially being the summer to keep room cool but smoke has been coming in and leaving a scent and such , i don't smoke myself and my unit is full of books and clothes so don't really want it to start smelling weird

caught it in time noticed a smell emerging and closed window before it got too bad , he seems to go out there late like after 10pm , perhaps one of those who thinks he needs to smoke to go to bed maybe?

the landlord seems to be aware he is doing this , he seems to start around 10pm then return at 11 pm , although there unsure if its for medical reasons or not as he may have a condition that is beneficial to use marijuana so there not sure what to say yet

Is it an apartment building or a condominium. Check your lease to see if there is a smoking clause.

pretty sure the unit was described and advertised as non smoking ( indoor area ) , so either they lied to get it or are ignoring the rules they just agreed to when they moved in a couple weeks ago , i suppose smoking would be ok outdoors but he's like smelling up the whole area and my window isn't even that close to his back door , like how much pot is he smoking or such for it to travel that far?

There may be a clause that prohibits smoking close to the building.

no its legal here , is some restrictions around quanity allowed and such but legal to smoke marijuana , pretty sure unit they rented was described and cleared stated as non smoking , might be why he's smoking outdoors or they lied to landlord and side they did not smoke

i kind of had a bad feeling when they moved in cause the apartment they were coming from was such a dump i figured they had developed bad habits when living at it and i was right
