The brain isn't merely processing information. It somehow turns electrical and chemical activity into experience: the redness of red, the sound of music, the feeling of remembering your childhood, the sensation of being frightened, or the peculiar experience of realizing, “I am me.”
What fascinates me most is the relationship between memory and identity. Your brain continually reconstructs the past rather than simply playing back a recording. Yet that reconstructed history becomes part of a remarkably stable sense of personal continuity. Somehow, billions of neurons that are constantly changing manage to produce the experience of being the same person who existed yesterday.
And there's a wonderful paradox there: the brain is the instrument we use to investigate the brain itself. It's rather like a telescope trying to understand the physics of telescopes while simultaneously looking through itself.
Given my profession, I appreciate the particularly strange part: relatively small changes in particular neural systems can alter memory, language, attention, personality, judgment, or the sense of self—while the person may remain completely unaware that anything fundamental has changed. That intersection between brain function and the subjective experience of being a person is probably the single most fascinating problem in neuroscience.

1 moAll parts of the brain fascinate me. It's interesting which parts activate or are have more activity during each activity in our lives.
And once we understand how to manipulate each part of the brain, we will be able to optimize its functions, potentially curing blindness, hearing loss, motor function, etc. There are cases of people being hit in the head and gaining superhuman abilities, like in the examples of Jason Padgett, Derek Amato, Orlando Serrell, Anthony Cicoria, Scott Mele, and many more.10 Reply

10 Reply 426 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. @thegreenyogi Recently had an experience that demonstrated to me how powerful our brain is:
My first try at performing dance in front of a crowd of about 100 people, left me so stressed, that I 'blanked out' mentally, right at the beginning of the performance, and I don't remember doing any of it, until my partner (a professional) squeezed my arm and told me "The music has stopped" The brain 'protected' me from the extreme stress of that first public dance performance.
That left me bewildered and terrified, as to exactly WHAT I had done during the dance? A helpful Yoga teacher said that was not all that uncommon for the brain to handle extreme stress that way, and that perhaps Beta Blockers might help me overcome that.
My MD prescribed Beta Blockers for me, but the next performance, I was alright.
THAT PART of the brain function is VERY fascinating to me and probably is for everyone having that experience.

How fascinating!!
The prefrontal cortex is one hell of a thing.
It’s our greatest power and our biggest torment.
It gave us dominion over the animal kingdom.
But also ensured we spend our loves looking for a higher form of happiness that might not exist.

1 moIt’s always fascinated me that 2 people can look at something and see totally different things. It could be a painting, Rorschach test, or a setting sun on a stormy day! Some people will see the amazing sunset while the other only see the storm clouds. Our brains are so just so different.

1 moWell one thing is the edits for long term storage that constantly take place which makes human memory so fallible while most people are utterly blind to the effect and cannot accept their memory is anything other than a recording of reality down to the last detail. LOL, attorneys exploit that phenomenon every day in courts.
So about reality...

1 moMemory fascinates me. How we can remember some things in exquisite detail, only vague recollection of some, and no memory at all of others. And sometimes, our memory of an event may change over time.
And what exactly is the memory capacity of the human brain? Is there one, or is it infinite?
I've always wondered if our detailed memories are not kept in the brain, but that we actually time travel back to the event, only as an observer.

There isn’t an exact, scientifically established number for the human brain’s “memory capacity.” The brain doesn’t store information as discrete digital files, so converting it into bytes is inherently approximate.
One widely cited theoretical estimate puts the brain’s information-storage capacity in the neighborhood of 1–2.5 petabytes. That would be roughly 1–2.5 million gigabytes. But even that comparison is misleading because biological memory works very differently from computer storage.
It has been a relatively recent realization for me just how much my unconscious 4F brain calls the shots. Most certainly does on which girls I like.
Our much vaunted conscious mind mostly centers on finding reasons justifying our 4F brain decisions. Since I realized this I've been consciously trying to explore it and double check with my conscious mind.
