Sorry... I'm going to choose two. One fiction and one non-fiction.

Non-fiction: Upstairs at the White House by J. B. West. Mr. West was assistant usher from 1941 to 1957 and then Chief Usher from 1957 to 1969, serving 8 presidents over 28 years. His book shows that service is not bad or menial thing, demonstrates the importance of details, that everyone matters, and that diplomacy and tact aren't bad words or bad things.

Fiction: The Pillars of the Earth trilogy by Ken Follett. Proving that love and good may and can triumph despite crushing heartache along the way.

My heart & other black holes written by Jasmine Warga. It’s fiction, basically a story about two suicidal people who meet and end up falling in love, and deciding to keep living for each other. So it’s a depressing love story I suppose.
