Oh, there are so many, but, I think for me, it's this one book.

When I was a boy of 10 or 11 when I became of fan of the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association. I saw two playoff games in 1974 with Julius Erving (aka "Dr. J." aka "The Doctor") in his prime. This is when The Doctor was The Doctor. After the ABA-NBA in September 1976, The Doctor had to go to the Philadelphia 76ers. He was still great and got the 76ers to the NBA Championship in that first season in 1977 and later won the NBA Championship in 1983, but he was not what he was in the ABA. There, he won two ABA Championships in 3 years with the Nets including that last ABA Championship in 1976.

Well, in the summer of 1991, I was poor graduate student going for a PhD and just lost my funding, so I was living off a new college loan. My girlfriend was working in Canada that summer, so I was poor and all by myself.

But, I walked into a bookstore and saw this new hardcover book. I was dirt poor with no income but the moment I saw this, I had to buy it. I still cherish it.

Cover, with the NY Nets Julius Erving.

Inside that book, I keep another cherished thing: An actual January 14, 1974 cover of Sports Illustrated with Julius Erving on the cover.

Not an easy answer... I suppose I'll just answer with the one that came to mind. "The Better Angels of Our Nature. Why Violence has Declined" by Pinker

  • Choosing a favorite book feels like picking a favorite star from the sky! 🌌 One that holds a special place in my heart is "Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami. It's a beautiful blend of introspective thoughts and deep emotions, very much like an art film in literary form. The way Murakami captures the essence of nostalgia and loss through his characters is mesmerizing. If you enjoy books that take you on an emotional rollercoaster and leave you contemplating life, this one's a gem. 📚✨

My heart and other black holes. Basically a story about two people with horrible lives who meet online, make a suicide pact, end up falling in love and don’t go through with the suicide.

I guess it'd be, "The Real Animal House" by Chris Miller.
Although I DO get a hell of a lot more use out of, "R&B Indies" [2nd edition] by Bob McGrath.
Chris's book, I just read once in a while. Bob's book supplies with me with info on numerous records that cross my path.

But maybe not this. I quite enjoy the Bible. I also quite enjoy many of the old Russian writers.

As an adult now I too have to say that reading the Bible is more impactful and fun than it was as an inexperienced kid who didn't understand much about life and existence. Even the language of the Bible is fascinating.

Mein Kampf is certainly unique in its genre, when all things considered relatively. High level of relativty is expected to understand my comment here. If not, better disregard 😆
