I have had 8 hours of practise with my instructor (plus 2 hours with another teacher while main teacher was away). I have a few issues:
1) He smokes e-cigarettes during my lesson. Doesn‘t let off too much smoke but there is still some and I hate the smell. He cracks a window but I wouldn‘t stand next to someone e-smoking outside let alone in a car.
2) He had touched my thigh a few times during explanations. While I know he is a tactile person and sometimes touch is the best to get someone‘s attention, I don‘t think it‘s professional. I doubt he‘d touch a man‘s thigh in this context so why do it to a woman?
3) His tone is occasionally patronising. There is always one incident during a lesson where his instructional tone changes to patronising (for me anyway). It makes me feel like I‘m being berated. For example, I was at an intersection focusing on finding my path and the right lane. I‘d changed to second gear already but he kept banging on about changing to third. I was aware I needed to change gear but I just needed to focus on the direction of the car at that moment. So anyway he keeps repeating himself, the tone getting worse and then after the crossing when we were driving straight again he asked me ‘you had plenty of time, why didn’t you do it?’
4) He doesn’t give me enough warning for upcoming manoeuvres. Today I was driving at maybe 40km ph and he told me with 3 seconds to spare to turn right. Normally you need 3 seconds to even indicate beforehand. So he had to take control and help, criticising my technique. When I said I need more notice of upcoming turns he just said ‘well there’ll be times where you only have seconds’. I said ‘that’s all well and good but I’m a learner. I need to be confident in doing the manoeuvre first before I do it quickly’. Of course he said nothing in reply. Then after that fast turn he said ‘park up anywhere here’… when we haven’t really covered parking up on a street. Like DUDE. Uhhhhhh.
So what do you think?
