Do you care about somebody’s media decisions?

I once met a very kind and hardworking guy with a perfect BMI and I had to turn him away because of the music he listened to and the tv shows he liked to watch and the type of values he had, such as having too much respect for good looking people and judging poor people who lived on charity.

When the bible says Israelite people must not marry foreign god worshipers, I view that as a compassion minded person must not marry somebody who worships money or appearance or charm or status etc…

For me, the "what" is as important as the "why". For you, however, maybe not so much either, or both. The bible in many cases has been cited for these situations, quoted, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers..." Dependent on the version, to that effect, also, "That one cannot serve 2 masters..."

What is being inferred in both?

My interpretation of the text is thus...

That any person who loves and serves God should not align or ally themselves who do not, either in marriage, friendship, etc.

That inevitably there will be a struggle between ones devotion to God versus whomsoever or whatsoever is deemed the 'master' whether its a person who is ungodly, perhaps a spouse, or an idea about a culture corrupted to sin.

This mandate of 'not marrying foreign god worshippers' is sensible for the reason that, again, "What could possibly a believer have in common with an un- believer?"

Though here it is not so much a question of atheism, only about the possibility of becoming a heretic; deviating from divine grace as to be unrecoverable.

If you felt this person was not in alignment with God, you had right to decide for yourself to turn him down. Would this have been my approach? Perhaps so, perhaps not. That was your decision. No need to think too hard on it for what your gut told you about this person.

If you're asking for support for your decision as a way to validate it, then doubt no more. This wasn't a question of what he chose as media but whether or not you felt he was a romantic match for you based on what you believed he worshipped because of those decisions to listen to or watch whatever he wanted.

Maybe he was right about poor people on charity. Some depend on socialism to thrive instead of working hard to earn their own money. Perhaps he was smart to notice it. See reality for what it is. Not a fairy tale, that if someone is poor is automatically great. Poor people can be evil as well as those with money. What is wrong with good looking people? Beauty is a posite value they received from Lord like any other talent, mellifluous voice and so on. You hate them because of what?

I couldn't care less about what shows they watch or music they listen to. Just don't be a peice of shit and we're cool
