I was OK in high school. A classmate was state junior champion or something like that. I held my own with him - until end game. I didn't have any end game at all. I'd do OK in early and mid-game - then it usually went down hill fast from there.
Since then I've almost totally forgotten how to play. The last time I played a human was about 15-20 years ago. At that time I hadn't played for another 20 years. I was handily beat by a 10 year old kid. I barely remembered how to move.
I never studied chess and never had any strategy. I totally winged it.
You NEVER forget how to play, just the strategery!
Haven’t played in awhile though I beat a bot on my phone 3 to 7 times during the pandemic, haven’t touched it ever since. Would crank up the difficulty and still do decent enough to feel proud, even developing strategies.
I learned it as a kid, but I was never that good. I don’t even remember all the moves the pieces can make. My brother is excellent at it! He and my dad played it all the time, until my brother began sitting in his room all day playing video games.
I'd think so.
I was working my way up to one of the 'Master' levels but fell short because my interests changed.
I won a lot of tournaments.
Only people to beat me are my brothers and our dad.
That's awesome! Takes a disciplined mind to do that!
@DrPepper12
Yup! Our coach (dad) always instilled proper discipline. Very much appreciated 'til today.

I have been playing the game for many years, but confess I am not a good player, even though I have bought books to read etc. I have a board set up in my Living Room, as I writer this, with my 'white' pieces set up in a new configuration that I have yet to decide if it is a "defensive' or Offensive' configuration. I have never learned the Sicilian Defense' and never learned when to "Castle'
I used to play on line some time ago and won a few games but also lost many times. Went to a Simultaneous "simul" once when I liven in Ohio at my University and watch a Grand Master play about 50 players...
Amazing to watch, isn't' it?
I can beat most people the first time I play against them but if they’re any good then I generally lose. I used to think I was at least ok but my boyfriend beats me most of the time 😂
I haven't played that much... And I haven't tried to become good or anything either.
So I'll say I'm bad.
I barely know how the pieces move. If middle schools still have chess clubs, they'd all beat me.
I'm OK, I love logical games but chess is too static for me :D
I don’t know how to play. Only “knight to E6” cause Harry Pottet.
I'm almost ok, lol
I beat my sister, it's because she doesn't know how to play but I still progressed a little
I'm ok. I don't play it as much as I used to. I used to be really good at it, just like when I played pool all the time
It was darts for me. Even toured bars in a team. I doubt I could hit a picture frame now. Those were amazing times tho!
@DrPepper12 I played darts a few times. Not enough to get good at it.
I've gotten to 1250 elo on chess. com- although I've just suffered a losing streak back down to 1200. I recently bought a chess book- I never read one, but maybe I'll get better if I study. I've been stuck around 1200 for over a year.
When I played a lot I broke 2000 ELO. Now I'm probably around 1800 level.
My son is ranked at his age group but it's like in the tens of thousands.
I’ve been studying chess for my whole life
I used to be better but I can still do ok
I don't even know the rules

5:minutes to learn... a lifetime to master
