I feel so guilty over my goldfish death?

I watched it died and wish it was me instead.. I asked God why didn't take me instead. Do goldfishes, or any, die often?

As for the goldfish dying, it is not your fault. There was probably nothing you could have done to prevent it.

Are you sure he was actually dead? Overfed goldfish will float motionless on their sides giving the impression they're dead.

Nothing wrong with feeling guilty over a pet dying weather it be dog or a goldfish. I felt sad when my goldfish died, had her for 4 years, tried everything to save her but in the end she ended up dying. May I ask what kind of goldfish and size of tank size? Goldfish are very messy in terms of bodily waste and good filtration and minimum tank size is very important. For common goldfish you want a minimum 40 gallon tank and 10 additional gallons for each additional goldfish, for fancy goldfish you want a minimum 20 gallon tank and 10 additional gallons for each additional fancy goldfish. It's always recommended to have at least 2 goldfish together as a isolated goldfish tend to get lonely and depressed. When doing water changes, always only do a partial water change unless a full water change is required and always save some tank water for cleaning filter media, tap water contains chlorine and will kill beneficial bacteria. I currently have 2 fancy goldfish in a 30 gallon tank with a filter pump that's rated for a 50 gallon tank. FYI, don't waste money on disposable carbon filters, there only needed when removing medicine from the water, instead use bio rings or bio balls, they do a better job at filtering and are reusable. Bio ring/balls will eventually get dirty, but are easily cleaned in tank water.
