Why do some or most people take the Bible so literal rather than understanding the messages/deeper meanings that it holds?

By literal I mean you have pastors “casting out demons.” You have people calling everything demonic, people that only listen to gospel music because let them tell it secular music will send them and others to hell and it’s like at that point you’re not even being a believer or Christian. Instead you’re just becoming someone who lives out of fear of going to hell and not being accepted by Christ and I don’t know the Bible that well but I do know know Jesus wants us to live, have life abundantly and put him first always. That’s it. It’s not deeper than that. With time you transform and you push away from bad habits/sins and bad things but that’s what grace is for. I feel like with the age of social media, Tik Tok really, everyone is so Christian coded that they miss the point of being a Christian in the first place. Weed smokers, alcoholics, liars, thieves, prostitution will all be in heaven.
