Does anyone have bettas?

What are your favorites? Mine are the half moon koi

Not anymore. I somehow always got Bettas that were suicidal. One I left the top off my tank and he jumped out of the tank in the middle of the night. I found his dried up body in my shoe sitting underneath the tank in the morning. The next one I got somehow he buried his face in the aquarium gravel and when I woke up in the morning his body was all pale but his face was dark color. Almost like all the blood got stuck in his head.

After this I concluded that I probably shouldn't get another beta even though they're beautiful fish.

What kills me is they're supposed to be among the easier fish to own and take care of. I've had angel fish, I've breeded mollies and platies and I've never had any troble with those.

I think mine were veiltails.

I used to own fish before we got our dog which died 8 years ago. I find if your fish is committing suicide it is because the other fish are bullying them. I used to own two bubble fish that were being bullied by other fish in the tank so the two fish committed suicide on the same day. We know there was bullying cause it happened in front of our eyes.

@jennifer_bloom do you think it's possible it was the fishes specific personalities (if that's a thing). Because I made sure I had all "community" fish.

We did not research the fish when we got them. Our bubble fish were bigger than the other fish but they got picked on cause they never fought back and had no aggressive qualities. Cause most fish are afraid to pick fights with aggressive fish. So having fish that lack aggression might be dangerous cause the fish could get bullied by aggressive fish.

@jennifer_bloom were they sick at all? Fish do this this when a fish is sick or stressed.

I doubt it cause they were both picked on immediately after they arrived in the tank, within days of arrival.
