my 13 year young son does and I can’t understand a damn thing about them except for the main one called Pikachu. However I have heard it’s like playing the lottery most of the cards are what is called bulk which is just worth a few cents maybe a dollar if you’re lucky but all in all they’re pretty worthless. It’s not very often that you find a real big money card. Also the reason why the prices have gone up is because of scalpers buying them left and right they driving out the price so that normal people can’t get them and enjoy them without having to pay a crap load worth of money.

m 3 moI would not collect anything... as it could trigger my OCD tendencies really badly, lmao
but if I did... it would not be Pokemon cards... those are just gambling for adult kids, lol10 Reply

I’d totally consider it, but more for the art than the money 😄 Those card illustrations are gorgeous, especially the full-art and vintage ones. It’s similar to collecting small prints from different artists. The market can be crazy profitable, but I’d treat any value as a bonus and focus on cards that visually inspire me 💫

3 moGiven my pfp, and my username, you can probably guess my answer, lol. I had some cards as a kid, but I was always more into the games, anime, and plushies.
As for investment. The value of Pokémon cards is solely dependent on the success of the franchise and the rarity of the cards. Considering how many Pokémon cards get printed, and the fact that people collect them despite the success of the franchise, I think you'd be better off buying stocks. I know that's boring, but I think if you collect Pokémon cards, it should be for the love of Pokémon. If you collect them for money, I think you are destined for disappointment.

u 3 moThey’re no different than any other collectable card game - most cards aren’t all that valuable but there’s the rare ones that can be worth a good chunk of change! I wouldn’t collect them though. I view it no different than gambling. You buy lots of packs of cards in the hope that you get a rare or valuable one. Most often you don’t.

3 moThe only cards game I played as a kid was Yugioh. It was fun playing with my cousins. But after maybe 11 years old, I stopped collecting them. They were just a phase just like any other recreational device or console. I remember getting beyblades around that time too. Those were the days with no worries.
10 ReplyI'm not really interested.
Besides, it opens the door to a lot of speculation. I hear there are certain stores that do not allow people to buy in bulk. Some people act like scalpers, emptying a store by buying all they can, creating a shortage and then reselling for 5 or 10 times the retail price. Others go as far as bribing staff to sell them unopened boxes literally at the shop's backdoor.
Collecting is sound, making it a greedy business is not.
10 ReplyI invest into them so yes. I plan to spend around 7000 a year on sealed, in 15 years that will be above 100k just based on the price brought. When they naturally double, triple etc over years it should be a 200-500K therefore by 40 I should be rich.
I collect Mtg since I like that and buy some other things, but Pokémon is an investment only deal.10 ReplyNO, I did collect footballs stickers and things as a kid then swapped them with peers and all that. Nowadays there is usually some kind of scam going on by the manufacturers who will limit the access to things like this to encourage more consumption and not just let folk collect the equally available cards so everyone can get to the end

3 moI think because I'm 46 and was too old when they became a thing that I just don't get it lol. But that's like anything when you are a kid right? These nostalgic things have value to many. For that I say to each their own. No for me but have at it to all that enjoy.

3 moI have cards back from when I was a kid but I don't really collect them, they just have sentimental value.. Tho my kids do have a box of them that they like to play with..
10 ReplyHm... Not for Money..
Some Pokemon cards are expensive due to their Rarity, I don't want those..
But I would collect a few for the fun of the Less Rare Pokemon cards which are Abundant in Nature

3 moLOL, no. I always saw the whole Pokemon phenomenon as a monumentally boring activity along with other card collecting or card game hobbies. It's like collecting paper clips or stamps.
10 ReplyNo... I collect overpriced Italian glass wares, it's much worse when I think logical about that. lol

Its fine not to like Pokémon cards, but you've left multiple comments like this. And it strikes me as very childish on how intent you are on saying you don't like childish things.
3 moNo, but some of my friends collect Magic cards which are worth even more money
10 ReplyNo those kinds of collectables are usually a bad bet.
10 ReplyThat’s for kids. I have Dream team Olympic basketball cards from Michael Jordan and they’re not worth a hill of beans to this very day
