What do you love and appreciate about your city?

Question

After I left the coffeeshop this evening, I was driving around my city and going through moments of gratitude.

I just appreciate all the trees, lights, and people walking around. I love my little city with how active it is while also enjoying the quiet moments it brings this evening.

I also had an enlightenment to embrace this moment. As a workaholic, I spent all my 30s being career focus with dedication, job promotion to leveling up in my Master Degree, and where I am now. It helped bring me back to remembering to enjoy all this time I have while I can in my stage of life with my 30s because it will only happpen once and just where I'm at in my life. It was a beautiful feeling~

There isn’t a whole lot lol… there are some decent restaurants, and where I spend my most time, it’s a small cluster of lake towns, so there is at least some good money in the area. The downtown areas have a historic and quaint charm, with some modernizations here and there.

Really, it is beautiful in the spring and summer… my family has a spot on one of the lakes too so we’ll get together and hang out on the boat and stuff. I enjoy cruising around town on nice days… everyone gets their cars out and you’ll see plenty of nice ones, new and old.

It’s more of an outdoorsy community than one centered around what’s “current” and trendy… nightlife and all that. Feels like a lot of people are stuck in the past to an extent, culturally. There aren’t really any places open late or anything… very much daytime towns where you go get a coffee or brunch at a nicer, more upscale bakery and walk around. Art fairs are a regular thing on weekends. Little specialty shops and boutiques line the streets.

Not the most exciting place for career-minded, young adults, but it’s at least a relatively safe area, a good place to raise a family I’d say, if you’re at that stage in life.

I agree with adding a little soundtrack to those special moments in life.

My 'city' is not a big place, just a coastal town washed by the Mediterranean sea. It gets really crowded in the summer, parking is difficult, yet those are small inconveniences. It's become a familiar place, I know all the good spots, even if I'm just a passer-by and was born far from here.

The best places are the beachfront and the pier, from which you can see the sun rise every morning. Nights with a full moon reflecting in the water are magic.

Even if at some point I might move again, this is one of my happy places.

I love my city because it's a teacher of everything it's a 24-hour gambling party Crazy Town where you meet new people you do stupid things you have fun or you don't there are many many things to do in this town the people that live here if they're smart they don't Gamble they might party a little bit but not too much we have the best clubs we have the best everything but it teaches you there are things in life that you don't want to get caught up in there are things in life that you want to get caught up in or experience like they say what what you doing Reno it stays in Reno how's that Vegas yeah Vegas whatever LOL but you can experience anything and everything I mean I don't care what it is you can experience it but there's tons of people moving here and I don't know but I still love it I love the people I love the people that were born and raised here because they're just different and they are strong and they are cool oriented and they believe in they believe in each other there is a code you know you men or men here and they can be soft gentle but it's the same time they're not going to take any shit and they do not let people get hurt in front of them and they're just kind people you should come here sometime

Even though it's summer and I don't care to go outside for much of the day at this point, I can be up in the mountains in less than an hour in a nice cool spot with a lake, I could be out in the middle of nowhere in the desert in a half hour if the weather was appropriate for that. It's a somewhat above average sized city that doesn't feel like it because of the lack of freeway running through town. It's surface streets everywhere so it feels like a bunch of smaller towns that just happen to be jammed together. I'm on the quieter side of town away from traffic congestion and so there is some random wildlife around here like coyotes and javelina and deer, and my entire family lives within 15 minutes of me. If I could just cool it down 20-30 degrees every afternoon then it'd be perfect, but that's what air conditioning is for.

I suppose the diversity. you can find just about any race, religion or ethnicity here. i mean the big ones are still white and hispanic but lol for the most part you can find just about any type of ethnic background here.

also the variety of foods. you are not too far from just about any cuisine you can think of either.

I love my city and specifically my location in that city. We have over 100 waterfalls here and I have direct access to forested area's, sports parks, and am less than a 5minute walk away from one of Canada's longest hiking trails.

And all of that while being tucked away in a quiet little corner of said city. It kind of feels like it's own little safe haven away from the more bustling parts but without being completely separate from it.

Not a darn thing, lately. It was nice when we moved in about 38 years ago, but the local political party took over and it has been a downhill spiral ever since. The town used to not spend over its' means, taxes were more reasonable, etc. Now, I can't even get the rep for our area to answer questions. A major street (for our town) had been under "state analysis and design" back in 2022. Now, it is finally ripped apart for the last 15 months at double the cost. Our little dead end street was supposed to be repaved in 2024. Of course, nothing has been done yet as of today in 2026. And of course, they have raised the sales tax. I could go on and on, but I've had enough depression for one day. ;- ).

I live in the city but there are so many parks and natural places to go. Lakes, mountains and whatnot. Lots of places to enjoy the outdoors and nature. In an hour and a half I can be totally remote.

I'm also surrounded by water so there is a lot of beaches and beautiful spots to hike.

Bright lights miles of shops awesome piles if incredible trash like palets and mattresses or shopping carts. I salvage that stuff at 2 am and tear it all apart. I forage the plants as well. I found out the flowers on magnolia trees are edible for instance. There are also walnuts growing wild here and a kind of sage that can be made into tea. I've sewn a pair of pants from an old matress cover that fit really well. Just no end of exploring and incredible things to find.

I live in a small town about 4 miles from the ocean. It is still a pretty rural area. People still have chickens and some livestock in their property. Its close to a major highway and the schools are good. Most of my neighbors are good people and my kids grew up in a nice neighborhood.
