What's the intention behind defining real reading?
It's not book reading! It's not helpful for learning about specific areas, but neither are fantasy books. If someone is asked how many books they read in a month and they answer with 35 because they read an average length comic run, then I wouldn't say that's accurate. Does it matter, though? Not really.
It's better to read comics than nothing. I read them myself and they are fun. Can you say reading is a hobby of yours when you only read comics? I would say yes. Most talks about reading as a hobby I have had always involved what they read. It was never something like "yes or no? Ok goodbye."
I would hope everybody makes the experience to read a long book, or series of books they love. Because that's an experience I wouldn't miss in a lifetime.
usually people that say its not 'real reading' imply a kind of superiority of actual books to comics. like one art form is better than the other.
Perhaps for children, comics can encourage them to read, but not for adults.
Why not?
I agree with @purplepoppy.
When watching a movie based on a comic book do comic book fans switch the sound off and turn on the subtitles for a more realistic experience
Of course not, its just another way of enjoying their favorite characters/story in a different format. There are those snobs who will not touch any of the movies however.
Yes, of course, I read books, comics, and magazines... they all count as real reading.
Thanks for the MHO
I pretty much learned to read via comic books as a small child, so in my opinion yes.

I don't know, you read what you are into and that’s all that matters is you have fun, enjoy, and maybe learn something new even if its about fictional characters which have no association with real life in the specific isolated comic of your choice.
Yes I believe it does. When I was a teen I had to learn Italian from scratch and the one way that really helped me was reading Italian comic books that are called Paperino and Topolino books and they really helped me learn.
Of course it is
