After buying a console few years ago, it showed very little features compared to the previous gen.
Just a new interface or a bigger Gb drive is sub-par. You could just get Gb storage online for 150 and go with that. The majority of the consumerism is probably the upscale of gaming companies. And the fact that they are now going digital is pointing towards more sub cost (PSN). Playing offline is not gonna rise, just online. It's proving to rise cuz of inflation. That happens every year so whats to expect?
I don’t play online, and digital isn’t bad. I play single player games.
I think entertainment period is going to be rich man's game before long.
We're devolving into a 2 tier society. The rich invest in assets with disposable income and become richer while the working class spends all of their money to survive. The cost of living increases the working class falls further behind.
This is why UBI will eventually be instituted probably in another decade or two after the AI has fully taken over and the unemployment is at at least 25%.
How do people buy stuff then
That's easy. You're trading freedom for an income.
The 1% the job creators, the rich, whatever you want to call them will slowly merge with gov't (it's already happening to tell the truth). Sure you'll still vote. But it'll be choice between limited option1 and limited option 2. Both subservient to the real people pulling the strings, the rich. You will still work, but it'll be primarily a humanities job as the world will be nearly fully automated. You have to focus the new world will focus more on your appeasement and your control, bot your output. And this will continue until the the 1% get our population to a more manageable level. Then it'll be more about control than appeasement. Understand this will be the new age of society. The age of the 1%. And a population to sustain it is no longer needed. Nor really wanted. But they can't just exterminate us. We still have the numbers. And we still serve a purpose however small.

I mostly play on switch now and for the most part, I play the same couple of games- hades, no man's sky, skyrim, fortnite, and minecraft. The new games I get a lot of them go sale for dirt cheap. I recently replayed red dead redemption 1 on switch and I got it for 5 dollars.
Every now and then I'll buy a new game. It's been awhile. GTA 6 will be my next big video game purchase.
So you play cheapass games. Terrible games. I always pre order games and i play big games like spider man and Pokemon and Digimon, Persona. etc
