My son just bought his first home and it looks great he really went all out. But yes. We live a few yards away from the ocean in one of the richest housing districts in our town and only maybe 5 houses out of 30 have decorations. This decline has been now her for many years now. Good question and I believe it will get worse, our American spirit has been trashed. Even Halloween has been 16 years since we have had a trick or treater and we have lived in several places. Again here no kids.
We do have one of the biggest and nicest Christmas displays in Oregon however right down the street, covers blocks and blocks of park area gardens and has walkways all through it. Beautiful. Raining however hope it stops so people can enjo it they come from other states just for this.
It says I must be a expert level to post a picture? You can see it by Googling Brookings Oregon Festival of Lights Azalea Park. There is a great video on Vimeo
I saw a news story in Nov. that predicted people were going to go all out on home decorations this year (maybe in reaction to more covid and less travel?) but I don't know if that happened or not. I honestly haven't been out driving around that much. I tend to not be driving through strictly residential neighbourhoods much these days. I'm on commercial roads more. I've been counting the string lights on the balconies across from me. But that's kinda a small sampling to come to any conclusions, lol.
The street I live on looks so dark. It's always cheery and lit up from Nov to February and a few even hold out until the first day of spring.
Yes I’ve noticed it but it’s been slowly happening for the last few years I mean I’ve seen houses where they went all out and now they just have lights up on the perimeter of the roof and that’s it maybe they got to old or something or maybe it’s with all that has been going on since pandemic especially nobody’s feeling very christmassy it definitely doesn’t feel the same in my house moneys tight always worried about bringing corona home to my sick wife that we should of called it quits years ago
Just to much work to put up, I live in the south and nearly every house in my neighborhood is decorated, makes sense though south is super religious. But I’m guessing probably because of Covid and people are spending their money more wisely because of the economy and Covid. Decorations cost a lot.
True! Now that you mention it, there was a shortage of decorations at the box stores.

That's normal here, I don't know why decorating house's isn't a thing here
Cost of utilities might be a factor. Less people having homes to decorate another. Maybe more people afraid of fires and sick of cleaning pine needles another.
I threw a garland around a cactus and watched the birds eat it up.
Silver Doves and finches really like popcorn, I guess
There are quite a lot of houses decorated around me but I do think its less than previous years. It could be that in the UK our power prices have increased massively a couple of months ago and people don't want to spend the money on electricity or think it will cost too much to put lights outside.
Every year, less and less. And I live in a mainly Catholic country. In our block, when I was a kid, only 2-3 houses do not decorate.
Now, only like 5 houses have decoration. Nothing close to the picture posted.
I would love to decorate like that picture. I used to see a few that nice, but zero this year. Decorations are minimal or not even up in my area.
I'm sorry! It's just that, with all the insane bullshit going on in my life the past few years, I just haven't felt like decorating the house, recently. Maybe next Christmas.
I hope things settle down for you F. M.
Thank you very much, TC! I sure hope so, too!! I haven't even had a HALF decent Christmas since mom died 5 years ago!! Even that last one with her wasn't the best in the world. We went to my ex-sister's for dinner and, by the time we were ready to leave a couple hours later, mom discovered that she couldn't even walk anymore!! It took 6 of us to get her out into the car!! Almost exactly 7 months later (one week after my b-day), she was dead!
That's awful. I'm so sorry!
Thank you! That was the short version, it gets much worse.
My house used to be the brightest one in my area. Due to lack of time I haven't put up 1 string of lights. Other neighbors have put up a lot less also. I've noticed less lights during my travels
It's hard to make the time, but it's worth it.
@Jamie05rhs my customers are getting taken care of. That's what matters
@Jamie05rhs 😂😂😂
Lol.
I am a single guy with no kids so i don't need to decorate the house. I have nobody to celebrate Christmas with. Althought one day i hope to find a girlfriend and have kids to find an excuse to decorate the house lol.
I noticed that too and it's because people are losing the faith and their love for Jesus Christ, when you lose love for the Lord and start disrespecting him life becomes ugly and dull and horrible like what's happening now.
In my area most people don't have Christmas lights. Most people have Christmas trees.
A lot of people pay to go to zoos, theme parks and golf courses to see Christmas lights. Most people will only see them if there is a drive through show.
Society sucks and people are depressed because of the democrats ruining things so they aren't in the mood to decorate. Plus they don't want to spend their money since there is so much inflation now.
Inflation is making a lot of people tighten their belts. Makes it hard to feel jolly, and even harder to justify the increase in electricity.
Biden is on a mission to destroy American. He is owned by the Chinese who own everything American. Anything that made the USA the most powerful, and place to have a wonderful life is going away. It is called a dictatorship like China will have one leader forever and like in the Roman Empire it will be the elite and the worker bee's. No middle class or way to ever achieve even a comfortable existence as we knew it. These millions and millions of immigrants illegally coming into our country have been invited because living substandard to us, is living like Kings to them. The carrot has been hung, however, they will find out and/or their next generations that where they came from looks very familiar once this Genocide of the American continues. We will be homeless or imprissoned for things like not getting the JAB, or not complying with your companies WOKE policies. One way or the other they are taking it all away. The first step kill off the elderly they are cancer to them that they refuse to pay for anymore. And doing a great job at it. Then go after the middle class, inflation bringing their dreams down to living in a rental or homeless as they no longer can exist, And creating and inciting (Maxine) racism and crime. That kills thousands a year just in one city alone.
Can we change it? NO. They made sure that votes will be cheated from now on with it working on Trump. And knew way before 2020 he would lose that is why Biden did not campaign. Votes are useless. No one will admit or even investigate them right up to the United States Supreme Court. And to think Trump trusted those he elected to help us, when in fact they had already been bought and paid for. It was all a Wag the Dog Movie and will continue to be.
Sorry to rant. But so far this format here is the only place I have not been banned on. I ran 13 Conservative groups for 5 years on FB and every one of them was blacklisted.
I understand your frustration regarding censorship. I believe that all ideas, right or wrong, should be heard. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
Come to my neighborhood. there's snowmen, reindeer, and lights shining everywhere from houses.
Yay!!! ❤
I feel like everyone is overwhelmed this year. Christmas snuck up on us. Not that house decorating is super common here
In my area, it's about the same. Most houses don't do lights, but the ones that do are about the same as last year.
It's been a general decrease for years but this year I've actually noticed MORE houses with lights.
I've seen a lot of FJB and Lets Go Brandon Christmas lights. People are fucking pissed.
More in my neighborhood. Last year was a rare “less is more” year.
It looks about the same to me. I switched to LEDs on all the lights to try and go easier on the electric bill but that was the only change.
Maybe more people don't feel "Christmasy" anymore with everything going on.
Less homes are decorated for Christmas. Not only this year. But maybe will decrease every year.
I hope outs just a blip.
*it's
We used to drive around to see all the decorations. I just look around and there doesn't seem to be much this year
In my neighborhood it's about the same , but once you leave drive a little further out I do notice less Christmas decorations this year.
A little less , maybe because of the cost of the electricity and buying more lights or maybe some are not in the spirit
I haven't seen much difference... But homes are generally less crazy decorated here than in the US. Like on the picture is extremely rare
It's not just you. I have noticed the same thing around these parts.
Unjustified inflation. Utilities are expensive anymore and decorations cost too much.
I have noticed that for a good amount of years. For years my house was the main one that had decorations
Yes, just not in the spirit anymore and most people have lost the meaning of the holiday. So it’s more simpler not to celebrate and just live like a communist.
Yikes!
In my neck of the woods (New England) more houses are decorated than last year.
hardly none here , shitty economy, shitty President, and shitty virus still around.
You are not alone. I think Covid has affected the Christmas spirit of many folks
I live far out of the city and have not been out to see them yet.
Yes, because everything expensive, also Corona hit a lot of country's economy...
I guess it’s because it’s not worth the effort. Christmas is one day a year. And it’s the least exciting holiday once you become older.
Huh? I cannot comprehend any of that. 😡
Yes, fewer homes are decorated this Christmas
Can’t afford the electric bill thanks to biden
Its sad but true where i live..
doesn't feel like Christmas time
I was noticing that too!
Definitely noticed.
Yeah i have noticed
Its not just you
