So what do you do to mark it?
How are you celebrating the shortest day of the year?
So what do you do to mark it?
Wearing my buckskin hood with stag horns; painting my naked body with woad; getting drunk on mead that I drink from an heirloom cup made from the skull of an enemy; dancing ecstatically in a circle with other naked sun worshipers; and jumping through a bonfire; then engaging in a wild, all night orgy in which virgins are deflorated and gang banged but not sacrificed. Killing would be wrong. Although sacrificing a sheep, then roasted for the feast is still a tradition.
Doesn't everybody celebrate winter solstice that way?
Same as last year,
doing a small bit of encouragement and walking.
We also usually pop to Duddo Stones.

Yuletide ritual. Raise a glass of mead and eat oatmeal biscuits. Known as "cakes and ale". A time when the oak king defeats the holly king to mark the coming of longer days
We used to sacrifice a virgin. Trouble is, the only virgins are second hand ones off ebay.
None of the above... but yeah i didn't know it was the shortest day of the year but thats it

Sparring, Working, Sleeping. in that order.
I woke up this morning and I started walking backwards to everything I was going to do I want to change back time so I can become a virgin again how many days do I have to walk backwards though oh nevermind I'm going to have to start all over I forgot I should go to sleep right now so I can wake up in the middle of the night and walk backwards to the next day I'll never become a virgin again oh well if you can't beat them join them WTF does that mean anyway you are one smart person let me tell you I love your question
Summer solstice here in aus tomorrow (wed), winter solstice in the Northern hemisphere today, tues 21st December.
Its still a 24 hour day, that's how long it takes for the earth to rotate 360°. Summer/winter solstice mark the longest or shortest time of daylight hours, as caused by the tilt of the rotational axis and it's effect on putting the sun's exposure on the hemispheres at its most or least.
Oh goodness, thanks for the reminder. We don't have sophisticated gadgetry like Stonehenge in America to remind us of ancient pagan rituals. Last year I wrote all my wishes on paper and stuck them to a Yule log and burned it all night. About 1/2 of the financial stuff came true, rental property, and the such. But you know, I"m 1/2 Greek and Irish so the gods listen to me.
It's the longest day of the year in the Southern Hemisphere. I think I'll celebrate with the Aussies.
`
With some good old-fashioned pagan rituals like decorating a green tree, caroling, hanging mistletoe, giving gifts, and a blazing yule log fire.
I am inviting the gentleman with the shortest penis to my gloryhole. :)
With bitches and beer… is how I used to do it. Now I am married and don’t drink anymore… but the Christmas cookies are nice, so there’s that.
I was not aware that our planet rotates faster today, than on other days.
I'll celebrate by finding someone who's responsible for the loss of our time.
The best thing to celebrate about the shortest day of the year is that the next day will be longer.
But then I didn't know it was the shortest day. I had a toast anyway, just in case.
I celebrated it by watching the new spider man!
excellent movie
Well obviously I observed the British tradition of a virgin sacrifice.
Think it’s off. The sun started reversing and setting a min later four days ago.
Packing up for my trip to LA, cleaning a bit around the house, then playing Skyrim and Warhammer 2
Sacrificing illegal immigrants should be legal at this shortest day. I'm tired of gutting them while wearing satanic robes in dark and cold catacombs.
I got up at 5 AM and went to the gym. I am making it a longer day by doing that.
i've been looking forward to this day :) so from now on we get longer daylight hours. i do feel like celebrating :)
it's the shortest day of the year? oh thank goodness, less misery!
I love it tonight will be long time dark and may be able to see more stars
