Inflatable Grinch in the HOV Lane

A California man was ticketed for driving in the HOV lane with an inflatable Grinch in the passenger seat.

An HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane requires two (sometimes three) or more people in the vehicle and allows the vehicle to avoid regular traffic.

If an inflatable automatic pilot is okay, then why not an inflatable Grinch passenger?

Was this a creative way to try to beat the system, especially since it's the Holiday Season? Or was it just Dumb?

Or maybe something else... maybe CHiPs (California Highway Patrol) have no sense of humor?

I guess as long as I don’t have to “Blow the Auto Pilot” I’m okay w/ that… But seriously, nah this is SO unbelievably stupid to have thought that they could have gotten away with that! People have been ticketed for having lifelike mannequins in the front seat, how on earth did this moron think they would get away with an inflatable Grinch? I honestly believe that we are slipping into the film “Idiocracy” with increasing rapidity!

Not a new thing, people have been trying to hoodwink the cameras since day one using mannequins even blow up sex dolls.
The real question is has any camera mistaken a human for a grinch.

It is not really creative. Lots of people do it. Most do it badly. I interviewed for am job in the city and I probably would have accepted if they made me an offer. I already knew I was going to get a real mannequin from somebody I knew that was in the business and I was going to have a couple of different outfits for it.

First, I miss the original Ponch and John from ChiPs way back when.

Then, it is both creative and dumb. It is creative (let's give credit where credit is due) but also very dumb. This is why laws and regulations are so complex and why we have warning labels on clothing irons.

Somebody in salt lake City years ago did that on the rideshare Lane with a mannequin. He was pulled over and find heavily. It made national news also. leave it to the individual that thinks their are royalty of the highway.

personally i'd find this hilarious and let it pass. but when more than a few people do it, it does start to get annoying.
