I'm not American so I have no idea what the point of it is lol

We've never done in either my family or my wife's. There are a few families I know who do it but they are odd ones out.

Most of Thanksgiving is food and family and American football. It used to be remembering the pilgrims and the first winter and the whole beginning of the colonies but that's all become a little taboo and were left with food, family, and football.

And no gifts.

Save those for Christmas!

There's a wonderful story that when Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip visited the United States in 1976 for the bicentennial, they toured the USS Constitution (a sailing frigate from the late 1700s). When the US built the ship, we still didn't have industry here to make cannon, so we bought them from Britain. They were (still are) embossed with the George III's royal coat of arms. As the story goes, the Queen saw the cannon and dryly remarked to Philip "we must do something about these foreign arms sales!"

I’ve never heard of anyone doing that, actually. Maybe it happens, but not in my family. Thanksgiving in Canada is in early October anyways so there is no connection to Christmas or anything like that.

It doesn’t seem to be a super huge deal here, definitely not like in the US. The origins of Thanksgiving are different here from what I understand. It’s honestly one of the more boring holidays for me personally, and it’s always on a Monday so you have to go back to work the next day, haha.
