How many years would you give your partner to go away during the holidays with their family without you before you can get annoyed?

So my partner and I have been together for over a year and this is the second year where they’ve went away during the holidays. I know my partner doesn’t see their family often during the year with their busy schedule so I understand and I’m happy for them to be going away. But I can’t help but be annoyed because it’s the second time not celebrating the new year with them.

Telling me how much fun they are having which I’m happy it’s a good time but I feel like it comes to a point where they should decide if they want to go away again or want to celebrate new years with you. They are getting a free vacation out of it too!

So long as we've discussed it in advance and are both okay with it. There is nothing wrong with each of us spending the holidays separately, with our own families, especially if either or both of us don't get to see them much during the year.

Look, you have him for the rest of the year. Can't you give him up for a few days so he can see his family?

go away for a period, so for an example this is the second year where they went away. So i'm just curious when is a good time to talk to him about it if they keep going on trips year after year around the same time of year. So after how many years he goes on these trips should i ask him to stay and spend new years with me. Hopefully that makes sense

Well it wouldn't necessarily bother me because Christmas and new years is a holidy but I would discuss it with your partner if it upsets you. Have you tried to go with? If not then you both need to talk about that.

It’s more for new years my partner goes away and would say maybe one day I get to join but it seems like he's enjoying it and although he says he misses me I just feel like he's okay without me which I know sounds silly.

No, and I understand if they want to spend it just them as a family unit but I feel like it comes a point where I either join them or my partner wants to spend it with me in town
