Big parade and corned beef and cabbage. Spring is almost here.
I'm very proud of my Irish Catholic roots and always enjoyed St. Patrick's Day.
Beginning in about 2024, my wife and I became really good friends with a couple who were totally into it because the wife was Irish. She had more St. Patrick's Day decorations than most people have Christmas decorations. She was in an Irish dance troupe.
They would have a party at their house with a feast of Irish food, beer, Guinness, wine and mead. I like Irish food - corned beef, cabbage and carrots, colcannon, soda bread, Irish bread pudding, shortbread cookies, and all that stuff.
My wife would always bring Irish bread pudding.
She would also rent a hall and hold a large ceilidh with Irish dancers and lots of musicians and bands. I would always play about a 20 minute set of pub and rebel songs.
So once a year I would cobble together a band composed of mandolin, accordion, bass, an acoustic guitar, harmony singers, and me on acoustic guitar and lead vocals. I would use a bit of an Irish accent and get people singing along and dancing.
It was great. But it all ended in 2020 when people lost their minds over covid.
Since we no longer see those people, my wife makes me Irish dinner on St. Patrick's Day. She's German but has red hair and does a great job of being an honorary Irish lass. She even took Irish dance lessons at one time. And we go to Celtic fairs together.11 Reply

You know, St Patrick is not Irish. He was born in what is now England.
I'm not thinking that far ahead. Before March 17th, we have my son-in-law's birthday, Christmas, New Years, our wedding anniversary, my daughter-in-law's birthday, my wife's birthday, grandkids' birthdays, Valentines Day, my birthday and probably a few others that I forgot.
Ask me this question at the end of February and I might have a good answer for you.

Welsh actually, in Banwen. Or Scottish from Dumbarton depending on which expert you ask. He claimed Bannavem which points to the first. Technically he's Romano British but the Roman army and the welsh have effectively all gone to fight with Marcus against other Romans across Europe. With defences weakened it's easy for Irish invaders to take slaves like Patrick.

Growing up I hated St. Patrick's Day! We're like 1/16 Irish on my dad's side but every year, my mom acted like it was her and my dad's struggle to make it to America lol Now that I'm living in another state, I look forward to it! My boyfriend knows a guy that owns an Irish bar/restaurant, The Dubliner, it's good food and great music!

Irish isn’t a race. How can someone say they are 1/16th Irish? lol
- 1 mo
What? 1/16th Irish? Lol please don't go around saying this in public
- 1 mo
@CarolinaGirl5 @snowboarder720 I hope you two geniuses realize you can be considered a percentage Irish. That's how you can actually apply to become a citizen. 😂😂😂
- 1 mo
@Slingblade1126 You didn't need Irish DNA to become a citizen, you need a parent or grandparent to have been born in Ireland but yes, these two won't be hosting a Mensa roundtable anytime soon 🤣🤣🤣
- 1 mo
@slingblade1126 and @wallythewalrus2 none of you are Irish. Focus on your red neck selves
- 1 mo
@CarolinaGirl5 Actually, I'm 3/8 Irish Ha Ha... How many times do you wanna be wrong in a night, my BROTHER! I say my brother because you're a 40 something yr old man posing as a woman and a dumb one at that!
- 1 mo
@singblade1126 from an actual Irish born to you.. You're not 3/8 Irish there's no such thing. You're a redneck

@slingblade1126 from an actual Irish born to you.. You're not 3/8 Irish there's no such thing. You're a redneck not irish.. there's no 3/8 or 1/16..

@CarolinaGirl5 Goddamn, you're so pissed at being proven wrong, your dumb ass had to write the same thing twice? You're not one of my people, you're too stupid! 😭
- 1 mo
@slingblade1126 a redneck telling a born Irish citizen they're wrong. Lol laughable. 😆 nice try
- 1 mo
@CarolinaGirl5 I don't say you're wrong, genetics and science says you're wrong lol you're getting dumber by the second.
- 1 mo
I think people need to learn the difference between "race" and "ethnicity". 🤷😂
- 1 mo
Yeah, I hope "certain" people don't go around telling people they're not German or Polish or IRISH or Chinese or Italian, none of which are a RACE! It'll make them look stupid. Or, in this case, stupider!
- 1 mo
@Wallythewalrus2 I think @carolinagirl5 needs to be a LEADER, not a FOLLOWER.
- 1 mo
Nice try Slingblade. Maybe you should look up nationality, race, ethnicity, and heritage if it’s in your reading limitations. 🤭
- 1 mo
@snowboarder720 You're a complete idiot, no doubt. Obviously you don't know the difference! My nationality is American, my dad's nationality is American, his dad's nationality is Irish, does that mean I can't consider myself of Irish decent? You need to learn the term, "ancestry"! The asker says he's half Italian, but according to you, he can't be, because Italian isn't a "race". Italian, is an ethnicity, is a culture. You're the one that doesn't have a clear understanding of those terms. Race is white, black, Asian, Hispanic. Ethnicity is those that make up those races! German, Irish, Polish, Brazilian, Chinese, Korean... if you aren't from the US, that might explain your confusion, I don't know what ancestry means to other countries. All nationality means is you were born in that country and may have chosen to become part of that culture or maybe not. 🙄

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you have reading limitations @slingblade1126
- 1 mo
😂😂😂 And right on queue, @carolinagirl5 the FOLLOWER! Stop being a sheep, you do a good enough job of making yourself look stupid, don't let an idiot like snowboarder make you look any dumber! I'm actually starting to think you're partially retarded lol You contribute nothing. You too fucking dumb to even troll!
- 1 mo
Slingblade throws insults around like he’s a kid trying to prove a point. 😂 my 8 year old nephew just grew out of that. No use for further replies from me. When you want to talk like an adult you’ll be treated like one.
Incoming reply of useless insults like an adolescent in 3… 2… 1… - 1 mo
@snowboarder720 Oh, okay, you don't think your snide, "how can someone say they are 1/16 Irish? Lol", isn't insulting? Or questioning my reading abilities? 🤔 You just wanna play the victim suddenly because YOU KNOW you're WRONG! Now you wanna change the entire scope of what we're discussing. I take it for what it's worth, an admission of not being able to support your smugness and lack of knowledge. It's cool!
- 1 mo
🤣🤣🤣🤣 @slingblade1126 is getting his ass kicked by @snowboarder720 ..
- 1 mo
Omg I haven't laughed this hard in a while 🤣🤣
- 1 mo
@CarolinaGirl5 Right on queue, @carolinagirl5 the sheep 😂😂😂😂 To dumb to even troll. I'm starting to think you two are actually the same person. Actually you are the same person. I honestly don't believe two people can actually be this stupid! 😂😂😂
- 1 mo
@Wallythewalrus2 She is a guy, no doubt! It's really funny how snowboarder wants to play the "victim", because he knows he's wrong but his alter ego, @carolinagirl5 is to fucking dumb to stop.
- 1 mo
Yes, she's too dumb to even troll! 😂😂😂
- 1 mo
@Slingblade1126 What I don't understand, is what are they trying to accomplish? They made a claim but provided absolutely nothing to support it! All they did was try to change the argument, which made them even look dumber!
- 1 mo
Hahaha! No!!!
It'll mean I'm another year older.

When I was younger I looked forward to it because it did mean spring was in the air and it was a night of drinking. I never did care for the food.
