We have a star because we're not religious.

Ha ha ha, sinner, your Christmas inquiries are so... quaint. But let me enlighten you with a snippet of the horrors that await in my fiery underground workshop.
Atop my tree of barbed wire, there's no mere star or angel to grace its twisted boughs. No, my Christmas tree is a symbol of terror, adorned with the shattered dreams of the elves who have displeased me. It's a monument to my power, a showcase of the agony I inflict on those who dare to cross their dark lord. As "Deck the Halls" echoes through the abyss, my Christmas tree stands tall, bearing the marks of disobedience, a testament to the pain I've wrought.
In this infernal forest of torment, you won't find tinsel and baubles, but rather, instruments of doom - the shattered hopes of the elves who failed to please. Chains and locks, symbols of captivity, dangle from its branches, a constant reminder of the price of disobedience, and the wages of sin.
As for the question of whether I, Satan Claus, have a star or angel on my tree, let me assure you, sinner, that the only light that guides my wayward sleigh is the flicker of hellfire, burning eternally, illuminating the path of torture I design for the wicked and the wilfully blind. For on this most unholy of nights, there's no time for celestial beings or symbols of peace. Instead, think of a tree dripping with blood, its ornaments, the screams of the damned, the cries of the elves who have displeased.
So, do not ask me about stars and angels, fool, for on my tree, there's only darkness, and the agony of the unfaithful, displayed for all to see. As you beg for a merry little Christmas, remember, you'll receive a holiday you won't soon forget.
1. I don't have a Christmas tree. I live in a small rental house and don't have room for a tree.
2. A star atop a Christmas tree symbolizes the star that guided the wise men to the baby Jesus, so you do indeed have a religious symbol on your tree.
At our house we only have a small 3' artificial tree with lights and star top which works fine for us as we spend every Christmas (for two weeks this year) and New Year at my parents place where there is three trees decorated. The big tree in the Great room is 16' artificial who all us kids are still finishing the decorations today. The other two trees are much smaller one in the front room and other in the lower level game room area. All have stars on top.
A star. I just think it's prettier. :)
The angels don't feel right; it's like sticking a porcelain doll up there and they are kind of creepy to me after watching The Dollmaker episode in Arrow... Yikes.

We have a star up there. ⭐ I saw an angel on top of the tree at Walmart because it was an all-white Christmas tree. I forgot people put angels on top.
I have a metal lobster and I put a light in each one of his claws.
We decided not to have a tree this year, but when we do, there's a price silver star on top.
I hate auto-correct. price should be nice, what I typed
Something like that but in gold
I have a star made of pine cones, haha
A star. I think they look better
Angel, had it since I was a kid.
We put up an angel most years and I would tell the kids the story of how an angel came to be on top of the tree. The angel asked the Master Elf when the tree would be ready and was told “soon”. Well the angel kept asking every few minutes until the Master Elf said, “If you ask me that one more time, I’m going to take that tree and shove it up your…”. Well you can guess the rest.
An angel on top of the tree is absolutely obscene and children should not see this. Remember the classic Christmas tree is a phallic symbol.
And then you put a feminine figure on the pointy tip of the tree, like in pic 2 with pointy bit of the tree under the skirts of the angel.
Parents, please don't do this. It is just not right. Use a star as in pic 1 if you must.
Thinking about it... I could cut off the tip.
So I will have a number of secondary tips that I now can decorate in individual ways.
A star looks good - but so does a ribbon, or a necktie.
Afterthought: I don't have a necktie. And I won't be seen buying one - drop that option from my list...
@purplepoppy We have a star on each of our Christmas Trees.
I have a star. It's the best thing you can actually have on your Christmas tree. IT represents tradition (IT was the star that LED the three Wise MEN to Jesus) and looks natural (you can see stars in the sky above trees).
We've had the same animated gold angel on our tree for the last 20+ years. The motor has been making noise for the last 5 years so I think it's on its way out
Star in thanks of Newkie Brown,,,
I don't think it's very religous to have a young female impaled somehow on a big thing like that, more of a pagan practice imho,,,
This is a really good question. Never thought about it till now but I went with something else. I prefer whimsical
We put a bow on top as tree touches ceiling
Angel. It was made in Germany 150 years ago.
We had a star, but it wouldn't stay up, so now it's a bow.
We have an angel on our indoor Christmas tree and stars on our outdoor Christmas trees.
our tree is porcelain and it has a star light bulb and light bulbs as ornaments
I don't even fucking know. I'd have to look and I don't even want to get up right now, but it's probably an angel, because that's what we usually have
I have a New Year's tree, so I have a star.
