I randomly decided last night at 2am that I'm gonna learn how to knit in 2025 😆

Probably just continuing to improve at hockey. Started late in life and play mostly against people who didn’t, so it’s been a tough learning curve, but all told, I’m getting a lot better.

I actually played as a sub on another beginner friend’s team, who plays in a true “D” League, with low-level players. My league, every team has at least one stud, and that’s really all it takes to fuck up the whole game for beginners. Like you don’t have a chance if they’re on the ice, they’ll come right up and knock the puck away from you, and it sucks because you don’t really get a chance to get better that way, when you’re just instantly thwarted.

But this league…I wish it wasn’t so far away (1h 15m one way!😱), I’d just play there. I think that particular area of my region isn’t as big on hockey as they are where I live. And in any case, the team I was on and team we played against were much less skilled than what I’m used to. So I had the time of my life out there because it’s a bunch of noobs like me, who have only played a few years. I was actually one of the better players out there, which I am NOT used to, lmao. My thing is usually that I’m not as good as the others but I’m crazy as fuck and will block shots and defend teammates physically, which is pretty rare at my level, no one wants to get hurt. I’m a high effort/intensity guy, but my skill is mid at best.

But at this game, I was one of the best players on the ice, skill-wise. It was like being in a dream😂 Not quite THAT good, but like…. I was the one carrying the puck up the ice, setting up plays, making way more successful defensive plays…like I was a Top 3 player on my team and a Top 5 player on the ice. I figured “average” was my ceiling. But when I’m with equally-new people, and only them, I kind of shine out there, which is reassuring to this aging, washed-up athlete😝

I guess it’s just nice to get confirmation that I’m actually a pretty good player, relative to my experience and when not faced by opponents with considerably of it.

But yeah, I’m stuck in my league, with the lifers who I’ll never fully catch up to, but lately I’m starting to figure out a few things with both my offensive zone entry/spacing vs defenders, and my shot, that I think should lead me to more scoring opportunities. I wish I could make myself 20 years younger, but no dice, lmao.

But I think this will be my best year yet for hockey, I feel like some stuff is starting to come together that will make me a more fluid hockey player, vs “new guy who has to stop for a second before doing things because it isn’t second-nature yet.”

This years marks year number 4 in my professional career and I feel like I don’t have the luxury to say: Im just starting out.


At this point I should be making headway both in terms of seniority and how much that seniority pays


I would also add getting in shape but I've been going very hard on that second goal for a while now so it’s not new

Oh I feel you. My 2nd and 4th babies were bad sleepers. As of right now my kids sleep through the night. But I remember feeling like a zombie. Hopefully you catch up on sleep and get that new car
