How do you decide who is getting Christmas gifts this year?

I like to buy presents for my immediate family (because that has always been a tradition of ours), and Ill usually buy some for my siblings and their families. My sister has 10 kids... and I dont make a lot of money, so Ill typically buy her and her family an activity or something they can do together. Ill also buy them for my boyfriend, and sometimes his family (mom, dad, and brother's family). I usually dont splurge on his brother's, but they are hosting us for Christmas this year, so I bought them all something.
I think it honestly depends on who you're spending Christmas with, and who in your life you would like to buy presents for (family, friends, work colleagues/your boss, etc.).
I also create an excel spread sheet each year breaking down the cost of everything and creating checklists. It really helps to see it all on one page.
It changes but not much.
Family - close Family. I dont have a big family
My best friend and her husband. Their son until the age of 18.
Two good friends, one I send to him, one I will give her when we meet for 1 time dinner of the year.
And maybe one person I am in love with. If I have one.
Always the same every year.
Cards - the friend I send a gift and the one I go out in a restaurant. My French teacher, she is 40 years older than me. If I am in love I write a card. And friends or people I know and we met often this year. So that changes also who receives a Christmas letter.
I used to work at a restaurant where everyone was incredibly passive aggressive and I thought it was stupid which meant I didn't play their game, which meant they all hated my guts.
But then one of my tables turned out to be these girls who were managers of Yankee candle having a meeting and when they noticed how rude my coworkers were they offered me their discount on as many candles I wanted.
So when someone said something snarky to myself later I had an idea
"well, that's not the right attitude if you want to end up on the Yankee candle list."
And as the month of December went on, my job got easier and easier.
Best $150 I ever spent in my fucking life.
It's such a wonder of a round number isn't it? Not 100 bucks, not 50 bucks. 150 bucks
@mysteriousNicholas I mean, it could've been 160 this happened almost something like 5 years ago
Okay
@Telekinetic-Potato furthermore, I feel for you man. It's up there with the hardest jobs - pleasing a customer. Prison work is one thing, taking care of patients or old folks is one thing - being a teacher or a childcare worker - yet pleasing customers? Pleasing customers is a lot of work.
@Telekinetic-Potato and it sounds like if it was during Covid, yeah. It's a shame bad moods can spread as easily as good cheer can usually not always usually turn things around ππ
@Telekinetic-Potato god bless, good soul π
I will buy a bottle of Petron for my employer. My mother is 94 years old and needs nothing, but she loves shrimp, so I will buy her and my stepfather 50 lbs of fresh shrimp. She'll put most of them in the freezer and have shrimp for dinner whenever she wants them. I will give my brother and sister-in-law 200 Barnie's White Christmas K Cups (their all-time favorite coffee,) 10 lbs of cashews, and 5 lbs of white chocolate. They'll love it.
And for my wife, I am giving her an emerald and diamond pendant in an 18K gold and white-gold setting.

It reallly isn't too hard. We buy giftem for our kids and a couple of other peopole. Everyone we used to buy gifts for have died or moved away.
Whatever I see in person on Christmas, which wonβt be very many, most of us donβt exchange presents anymore and usually just give to our siblings kids but only my brother has kids
I buy shit. Then decide who I think will like what.
I bought 3 bags charcoal and everyone get charcoal instead gifts.
In this economy, no one is getting gifts unless you're making lots of money.
Did they give me a gift last year? 🙊🙉🙈
We don't give gifts anymore in our family. If we want something we'd rather buy it ourselves when we need it. We just go out for a nice dinner instead. We were at the point where nobody needed anything so everyone was just getting each other gift cards and at it made more sense to keep your money and spend it where you want.
I have a small family itβs just my parents. No babies no boyfriend no husband. No friends.
so just gifts for my parents and nieces.
I go to the mall.
It's a good start - then I shop shop shop for bargains 😃😈
I usually stick to close family and friends I actually see or talk to regularly, keeps it meaningful and manageable.
Have they kept in touch with me
So my parents and my brother are in ditto a few friends, lost one it seems and regained another
Whoever im fucking is getting the most⦠friends can fuck off⦠however I always get shit for friends kids

Just my mom and sister. I'm in college and on a tight budget
I look for people who have been kind to me.. had my back during tough times then
We are not religious, so we buy only New Year's gifts.
By how naughty or nice theyβve been
This made me smile πππ
