Is it easier to find people to talk to during the holiday season?

India is a different country compared to western countries socially, culturally and in family bonding. It is generally easier to find people to talk to during the holiday and festivals in India. For most people – friends and relatives normally need not to call and fix appointment on holidays. They can just come, spend some happy time with family, mostly join for lunch or dinner – without any hesitation or other feelings. Most Indian festivals celebrated in public place on large level. They are inherently social, community-oriented events that emphasize togetherness, communication, and the breaking down of social barriers. No body needs invitation or formal message.

Major festivals like Diwali, Holi, Navratri etc. are primary times for family reunions and community gatherings. People often visit each other's homes, enjoy sweets, and participate in shared meals and activities, creating a warm and inclusive environment. Everybody just enjoys atmosphere of joy, celebration, and openness. People tend to be more friendly and less formal with people of other social group, cast or any strangers during these times. The focus is on shared human values, which naturally encourages conversation and interaction. Many festivals like Navratri activities spill into public spaces, such as streets, parks, and local markets. Events like community bonfires during Holi or public art installations during Durga Puja / Navratri foster large, communal interactions.

For those people that find it difficult to meet & talk to people I don't think Christmas helps them at all.

@DishLady I have always been very open to people, and as a result, they tend to be open to me. I meet strangers at the Mall, and find it easy to talk to them, and they seem relaxed to talk to me. I find that VERY flattering, in that strangers find me a person that they can talk to under those circumstances. Holiday Season is nice also, and people DO seem more friendly at this time of year.

I’m not sure. I generally find it pretty easy to chat with people, so I don’t notice much change during the holiday season.

Although yes, it seems like people are looking for flings even more than usual. I tend to keep away from that crowd though.

I've noticed more girls liking my profile on dating apps. I think it's just a loneliness thing. At least where I am in Ontario, cold weather keeps people in more. It's "cuffing season".

For me, the cold hasn't changed how social I am or how often I go out, but I'm sure these girls are more bored and don't know what to do with their time.

I get a little more energetic at the start of every season. The change is exciting. I don't think holidays change my communication too much. I tend to veer towards the same people for heart-to-heart chats.

I'm not "dating app" material bc they've always felt too fake to me. (To put it another way, I find it challenging to checkout and decide on the right pens online. I'm not gonna have an easy time checking out and deciding on another human being online. I need the OG organic meetup.)

Lol ya know I actually didn't think of that until just now. It actually makes sense because I just looked it up to confirm what it is. It's a seasonal trend where people seek SHORT TERM romantic partners. And the funny thing is, that matches the girls who liked my profile. They wanted short term and I said no 😂

Trust me, I've been made aware of your avoidance of dating apps for quite some time now 😂 Different strokes for different folks. Whatever works for you.

Obviously I'd prefer to find someone in person, but in my generation, I find that women are much less approachable, and dating apps are kind of a fall back to fill the gap of the social skills people have nowadays.

I just don't like them. Something about the whole process seems... unsavory and nefarious from the get-go. I want clear, peaceful connections OR just nothing. Seriously.

Yeah, your generation trusts the screens WAY WAY WAY too much. And that's MY generation's fault for leaving our kids in front of TV and screens to keep them quiet in their formative years.

"Trusts" is a bold term. I wouldn't say I trust the people on dating apps blindly. I try to get them off it or at least send voice notes asap. Every interaction seems like a facade when it's through text.

It's the same as social media. I don't trust everything I hear. I look into it more until I think I have a pretty good idea of whatever the topic was on.

I think growing up on screens and adapting to technology at a rapid rate has helped my generation learn how to filter information pretty well online, fake from real.

And yeah... I've been offered the scenario for hookups more a few times now, and I've never felt comfortable with it. Although I'm not innocent by any means, I feel like if I am with a long term partner, "flings" aren't something I can be proud about. I think into the future in that sense.

I met my wife about 10 days before Christmas, 2020. I did not jump in too quickly. We dated once a week for about 6-8 weeks before we stepped it up.
