What would you consider to be an important secular work of art in the Christmas milieu?

Hallmark rejected this painting for its Christmas cards because they thought “people wouldn't go for it.” In doing so they had turned away a museum piece, the most important work of art they had ever commissioned.

I can't think of a particularly important work, but I really like paintings that portray farms or villages in old timey days with sleighs and horses, people in winter clothes, kids with sleds, towns decorated festively, and quaint homes with warm lights shining from the windows.
Currier and Ives made paintings like that but there are some works that I like better.

Good question. Here are two secular works about Christmas that I love: "The Family Stone" (movie), "White Wine in the Sun" (song by Tim Minchin)...

I was recently at the Dali museum in Paris. If you are ever in Paris, go see it. It's not crowded and has a large collection of works by Dali. While you're there, also see the excellent Musée Montmartre.

Great question. My first thought was Coca Cola's history with Santa. I am not sure if this is the first time they used Santa but these old ads come to mind. This might be from the 1930s
