It seems like he really wants you to be his wife but he is to scared to go out, and take the steps to commit. In this case he is reinforcing the fact that you may or may not want to be with him, and ultimately I feel that he is afraid of rejection, or he might just be contemplating whether or not to purchase the ring, but I have to agree with "1stblackx" He's being a real jack wagon by taking away the final element of surprise.

Yes he wants to propose but he is taking the "I'm a pussy" approach by doing it rather than just doing it, he already ruined the element of surprise by doing this.
My boyfriend has asked me if I would marry him a few times, but there was never a ring, he wasn't on his knee so I always repsonded, "I'm not accepting this as a proposal silly Lol" He promises he will do the romantic proposal sometime, I think he was just curious... But we talk a lot about marriage so its not surprising.. I think its just curiousity but if he wasn't gonna ask, he wouldn't ask such a question.
That's how my mom and stepped got married. Guys like to ask "What would you say?" or "If I did this" etc. Bottom line: He wants to marry you.
thats not fair he either needs to ask you or quite asking you what you would say. next time he askes ask him are you asking me to marry you?
