What does it mean when he jokingly asks you to marry him?

Ok so I've become good friends with a guy I work with and he flirts with me pretty much and off and on I wonder if he's trying to send messages that he likes me, or if I am just misreading his friendship to me. The other day out of the blue he said "will you marry me?" and I said "yes" (I didn't know how to respond, it happened so quickly) and then I was all, "you have to give me a better proposal than that though" and he was all "oh I will, I'll do something crazy, I just had to make sure you'd say yes first because one time I saw a guy propose to a girl at a spurs game and she said no.." I'm confused as to why he asked me this question. What is he trying to get across? Help?

I'm a big believer that behind any joke someone makes there is a point they are trying to make.

Perhaps he's trying to get an idea whether you're open to a relationship. I think you did the right thing by saying yes, and joking back that it should be more creative. I think something good will come out of it. In the meantime just continue bonding with him as you are doing and let fate take its course.

Hmmm, indeed, it may be that you're one of many which is unfortunate. I think the best thing is to outlast the competition. Nothing builds a reputation like having a long history. Other girls will come and go unless they too are interested in him. So keep him close in your life when other girls are not willing to go through the effort. It's amazing how 'lazy' others can be if there's a barrier. My cousins miss chatting with me when I deactivated my FB account, but none of them call me.
