Should polygamy be legal for men who are rich, successful and attractive?

I recently read this post from a religious scholar who discussed polygamy. He said it is in women's biology to throw themselves over men who are rich and successful, this is why many of them are surrounded by yacht girls and what not and they would rather be side chicks to such men than be wives to poorer men. He did say that it doesn't necessarily make it the right thing to do but instead it is something subconsciously ingrained in women's psychology. He even went as far as suggesting that things from simple homewrecking behavior to prostitution can be decreased if more men were polygamous. Not only in the sense of many women not caring about monogamy but also because women in vulnerable and underprivileged positions would benefit from having a man provide for them even if the man in question has other another wife.

Ok this part isn't his words, but scientific studies have proven that women find men wearing wedding rings more attractive, and generally women are attracted to men that other women are also attracted to, this is called 'pre-selection'.

None of those are my words, but I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on this. Don't just answer saying 'this is ridiculous' or 'this is stupid'. Please explain your reasoning with logic.

I've personally never been against polygamy, I don't want a polygamous marriage for myself but it works for some other people so I don't judge. I don't know what to think about the scholar's reasoning though. Whatever rocks people's boats, I guess. Many men in Arab high society do have multiple wives, but I suppose the marriages are mostly political and the women are not necessarily flocking over these men by themselves.

It makes perfect sense and Western countries did suffered terribly from it and one of the perfect examples would be Russia, where men population was on steep decline after WW2.
They Church banned Polygamy and then there were at-least 2 women/man but those women died without producing the kid and Russian population shrined terribly and now Russia is facing Acute-population shortage syndrome, where they are largest country with only 144Million people and even they still have gender-mismatch.
Post-Soviet states follow pretty much the same trend with population shortage with some suffering from 4/1 ratio.
That's when Polygamy concept of Islam comes into effect and it was strictly mentioned along with rule, that there will be time of gender mismatch due to men dying to war and then you should take more than 1 wife if you can manage equality among them.
Islam also mentioned Equality as major requirement along with right and it is supported by the biological fact where 1 man can fertilize multiple women at-once but you have to take only 4 max at 1 time... it's not economic equality you have give due TIME, emotional support, status and with woman right to have sex on demand secured... Fulfill their sexual needs too.
Did it sound like a lot of work then that's exactly how Islam portrayed it and even go as far as to call it curse by saying "Goodluck with equality part"

I mean you can't make it legal or illegal due to someone's income level, but I agree with what they said. Its scientifically proven that women are attracted to power and usually more money = power. Many women would love to be near rich men because they can provide the lifestyle that they dream of, even if they are not the main ones in the relationship. There are already women that side chicks to guys that have some money, now imagine what they would do if they were extremely rich. Money makes the world go round. This can also be related to the idea that women find men with wedding rings more attractive, its not because they like to be homewreckers but it's more of the idea that we have since we are kids, we want things other people value. When someone has something they value the mind starts to think "why do they value that" making them want it as well. Now with marriage its the idea that if they are married then means they must be a good man since they are married and women love a good man especially if they've never had one in their life, so they want to see what that woman sees in that man.

I didn't read this fully but I'll put it like this. If man never made money then wealth wouldn't be a factor. It would be something. Biological like strength, beauty, size you know.
But in modern society what makes this world go around slightly smoother is wealth. So some women will throw themselves at those men because it's easier than a 9-5 that underpays and since they can be pretty, slim prepared to do all he wants, they will happily make that exchange.
I don't think polygamy should be made legal because you are tarnishing the principle of what a marriage is. If a married couple want to add to their relationship then they can have bfs or gfs. But in all honesty I don't see why anyone in that situation would marry except for the tax breaks.
It's really for those in those types of relationships to demand change. In my opinion leave it as it is simply because if you start opening that up, you're then making it more complicated when it comes to bigamy and all the other spousal laws and rights.

I don't think it should be illegal at all. If people want more than 1 partner, they should be allowed to regardless or wealth or gender. It will surely allow the serial cheaters some relief.
I did see some guy here saying that men are meant to mate and provide for many females. But girls don't understand that it's their biological calling and attack them for checking out other girls. So my answer is because men can't be satisfied with one woman. Yes there're home wreckers and cheap woman who love being a cheatee and who feels empowered by being a man snatcher but this is more beneficial to the man

I don't see any problem with it. I agree with the reasons you gave - yacht girls, and the fact that women in vulnerable and underprivileged positions would benefit from having a man provide for them even if the man in question had other another wife. It's similar to the fact that wealthy men keep mistresses, although mistresses have little security. I would hope that women in polygamous marriages have the same legal protections as women in monogamous marriages.

I assume laws against polygamy are based on Christian ideals. To that, I say "Pish."

I believe this is true for SOME women. Because some women just want to be queen Bee. It's not even about competing with every woman.
I used to work with this woman that wouldn't give me the time of day. But there'd be hell to pay if any other woman showed me any attention
The wedding ring on a guy just presents a challenge she doesn't want him, or any other guy even a rich guy. She just wants to know she can have him. That she can lead the married man astray

Well, let's just say that there is a very good reason why arrangements like that have worked so well in the past.

In today's world, so many men lack the resources or ability to properly care for even one wife, let alone several, but in cases where he is capable of doing so, polygamy can be mutually beneficial.

Men naturally ARE polygamous, but this is often kept in check by ideology and the limited social capital that most men have. The consequence often leads to huge numbers of men seeking relief with prostitutes as one woman is unable to provide for the intense sexual needs of a man naturally.

I don’t love it but of course it’s totally legal in lost of the west for a man like that to have multiple homes each with a separate partner, or alternatively to marry a series of women.

basically the wealthy here engage in serial rather than simultaneous polygamy. It’s unclear that this is actually better.

I think when widespread it causes societal problems. That said effective polygamy in the casual dating world is likely a bigger driver of those issues.

no polygamy was meant to increase population as the arabic desert people were expanding they were also losing many men in the process. they couldn't sustain a dying population with low fertility rates due to desert conditions the adopted the polygamy method because women were outnembering women 4 to 1 now its outdated but still permisible.

I don't see any reason to not make it legal. We already have a lot of hypergamy in society it just is not officially sanctioned. Actually you probably in some ways would cut down on the number of marriages because men who are legally obligated to women would not be in a hurry to become legally obligated to some more women. If it was made legal the advantage would be the women and not necessarily to men at all

Yeah that’s kind of boring really. Women who can take care of themselves don’t need a rich guy. As long as he is kind, faithful and works it’s all good. My husband and I are doing very well. We started out with nothing. Mormons are weird too.
