What many Westerners don't realise is that the custom of wives taking their husbands' surnames was historically a purely western cultural practice, and was unknown in the rest of the world. It was only with the global spread of European culture that the practice became common in other places. Personally, I think it's a stupid thing for either the wife or the husband to take the other's surname. Both should keep their own surnames.

Yes. It means he's the bitch.
In the face of great danger it's up to the man to sacrifice in order to save his family despite feminism.
If you and your children are on a sinking ship it's your job to put them on a lifeboat and then drown. If an armed burglar breaks into your house it's your job to tackle him and possibly end up hospitalised or dead. If your family is in danger of violence you attack the attacker while they escape.
You do that, you die, and the kids have her last name? Your name and your legacy is finished.
Pussies don't even think about that.
It's uncommon but not weird.
In my culture, kids and wives take the the man's first name as their last.
I find it weird if I have a wife and she took my name as her last, so she'd keep hers and if she's got a cool last name, I'll take hers.
I always said that if I get married, I really want to hyphenate my maiden last name with my married last name. Simply because my last name is very unique and has an interesting history to it. But any children i have from the marriage are getting their father's last name.

I think that should only happen when the guy has no last name and no family to go to. Otherwise, I would question why. A woman should marry into his family, that is what marriage is. Not the other way around. Otherwise, I find it weird.
It's actually really weird.
So the name isn't such a big deal, but the line hopping thing is definitely weird. Surnames are just meant to mark lineages through history, so that the sons of sons can be found easily. When you start to mix lines, order kind of disintegrates.
Not something people care about anymore, but it irks me. For what? A feminist point? Just keep your name, dude. Not in this day and age. Just pick the one you like better!
It's not the most common thing, but I don't see anything wrong with it. Sounds like the kind of thing that would upset someone's elderly relative, though, lol.
honestly I just think you should take the surname that sounds cooler lol
Yes, that's very very unusual. That's something I've never seen happen in my whole life.
Not sure i could respect my husband as a man if he took my name
Its weird anyone would change their name. Maybe both should change their names. Start their lives together with a completely new alias.
Lets say your name is James Kunte
And her name is Sara Bond.
Are you going to keep your surname or hers?
I think James Bond is a given.Considering I've never heard of a guy taking a woman's surname and wasn't aware it was a thing probably I would find it a bit strange...
Nah. If anything it's like giving the finger to those traditionalists. Besides, what if her surname sounds cooler? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Some women have cool last names. Mostly it's to do with family.
It's not only weird it is pathetic. A man who takes his wife's surname should have his balls surgically removed.
I’ve never really heard of that. I’ve heard of women keeping their own names.
I don't think it's weird just a bit unusual.
Is not weird is just uncommon.
Do whatever you want.
I wouldn’t say “weird”, but it is unusual.
