So, the guy I’m seeing had said literally he didn’t mind taking my last name, because he didn’t want to change anything about me. I’ll leave out the rest, because I’m not sure it’s relevant.
I honestly thought this was so sweet of him to say, I had told some of my actual friends while we were hanging out, but there was plenty of people I thought were my friends who had several negative things to say about this. Like toxic femininity central for real.
but is this REALLY something so many people feel this strongly about?
I had no idea something that’s apparently not a thing was such a huge deal, because of the people who had something negative to say about this, they were quick to present TONS of opinions of plenty of people which really made me only respect their view even less and since all of this happened I’ve really tried to distance myself from these people even though they have apologized, because something just kind of clicked for me that these people were not what I would refer to as “good people”.
I don’t think I’ve ever really thought it before this, but now that I think it i definitely feel like it’s something I’ve known.
I think what I most disliked about the entire thing though was the lack of respect for my just not having the same opinion as theirs, because it was pushed beyond the point of them simply sharing their opinions on the matter. They were trying to change my mind and present all of this information from all of these sources as evidence even though I’m pretty sure some of it was their first time ever even seeing it.
I’ve since decided that him taking my last name wasn’t fair, just because I had said I would not be changing or hyphenating my last name, because I paid for it.
So I told him instead we could pick out a new last name if or when that time comes. He was pretty excited about it and has been coming up with so many last (and first) names ever since. He wasn’t aware of this drama & I don’t want him to be either.
