The reason why I don't really approve of this 'tradition' is simply because women in today's (western) society aren't traditional anymore. I believe the pros of traditional acts should only be reserved to those who are traditional. On one hand women want to be modern and on the other they obviously want the benefits of a traditional man or traditional acts. You have to choose, either be traditional or not. Don't preach for equal rights when you're expecting a man to bend a knee.

Glad that I'm with a traditional woman who actually knows how to be and appreciate being traditional.

Unfortunately, nobody can agree on the historical origins of this romantic gesture, but there are a few reported theories that show promise.

During the Middle Ages, chivalry was not yet dead and formal courtship was the medieval version of modern-day dating. Kneeling was also the protocol for many ceremonial rituals and rites of passage, including those of the romantic kind. Medieval artwork and literature shows knights genuflecting before their feudal lord as a sign of honor and respect, or kneeling in front of a noblewoman to express their eternal servitude and admiration in a show of “courtly love.”

But medieval rituals aren’t the only possible explanation; religion may play a role as well. Many faiths, like Christianity and Islam, have their worshippers kneel in prayer to express their devoted service and everlasting respect for their God.

In short, proposing on bended knee is a symbolism of devotion and respect.

Is just a tradition that many people like to follow I don't see it as less manly or anything negative. If my partner doesn't want to bend the knee when he proposes to me I'm perfectly fine with it. It's 2022.

Like put ring on her plate and say marry me while standing and she's sitting, puts u in dominant strong frame while still asking her to be with u. I like that image

I don't know, but I think showing her a ring when asking is a mistake. Then the price of the ring is being considered in her decision instead of how she feels about the person.

Use one of those candy rings out of the quarter machine instead for best results. Then you would know if she is greedy or not and if she has a good sense of humor.

No, it's traditional to propose on one knee. The reasoning is simple. The guy is letting the girl know that she is important, hence above him, and that it is totally her decision.

I have been hearing that feminists speak out against this especially in public because it puts pressure on the woman to respond positively, therefore it's proof that men hate women.

If those individuals have the clout to actually convince the rest of the feminists of this, I absolutely hope that men stop doing this so that more regular women realize how much of a grift feminism is.

Bowing and kneeling are not the same thing, especially in that context. If you understood the passage at all you would know, that verse specifically is talking about idolatry worshiping other deities. Jesus himself knelt at the feet of his disciples to wash their feet, are you so prideful that you think you are better than Jesus?

      Ephesians 5:21 - 28
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

Here is the verse in context, and it's still saying to submit to each other out of reverence for Christ. You can't just cherry pick the parts of the scripture that you like then reject the rest... I mean I guess you already are doing that... but how does that reflect on you as a self proclaimed "Christian".

      @Subarugirl:

Quit arguing what you don't know. What you're saying doesn't make any sense.

The proper context is for Christians to submit unto one another in terms of putting their Christian brothers and sisters best interest above their own.

Not for a man to submit to his life as you are trying to paint.

      Ephesians 5:15-21:
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.

      Philippines 2:3-7
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

Yep. I came in the bitch and then slapped a ring on her finger and said “you belong to me, now.” She cried and called her friends. I took a nap.

I don’t think it is. It’s just a western culture thing. In certain Asian countries, they bow to be respectful. I don’t think they are simps.

Not simp but sometimes it looks cringe if overdone like spending a lot of money and organizing an event for it

      Think about this while shitting-
If men are only as faithful as their options, does that mean faithful men are undesirable men?
So if a woman has a faithful SO, did she end up with a guy no other woman wants?

Wait so marrying is cool and others are idiots for thinking otherwise? I guess coming from 18y makes sense what u got to lose, right? Marrying for you might be upgrade but for many men out there its not, and if you can't see that then im sorry thats something u have to work on then, expand your awareness. If what i say sounds challanging to you then forget it, in the end u live your life, do as you seem fits to your needs.

It's an alpha move. If you've picked the right one.

      How is it alpha move?
Wouldn't alpha have harrem instead of just 1 women. Alpha chimps had multiple women with babies while others male chimps had 1 women with baby. So how is that alpha?

@Honesttguy that's an extra level of Alpha if you can keep and support multiple women at the same time. Alpha Alpha or Apha Pappa depending on the attractiveness of these women.

You're a sad little man aren't you, well I use the word man loosely and only to denote your gender, you're clearly not actually a real man. No wonder you're single and likely always will be.

It's embarrassing. I'll rather die alone than to bend the knee to someone especially for love.

I bend the knee only for the Lord Jesus Christ who alone is worthy of such act. No human is.

Well no one is forcing you. Jesus won't marry you though. He isn't gay.

Bowing the knee is a act of high honor and submission only to be reserved for the Lord Jesus Christ only and everyone will bow the knee to the lord Jesus Christ one day.

      Philippians 2:10-11
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
