Is 19 really too young to be engaged?

People in my country have no problem with 18-19-year-olds getting engaged and then married. It's common/the norm. Most people even get married earlier than this age. But when Americans on the internet seem to find out, they have an issue with it. 13-year-old single mothers is not a biggie, but 19-year-old adults who are only in a promised marriage and nothing else is a biggie? Cool logic. 😑👏.

Personally, I advocate for early marriage. I don't support the marriage of kids 15 or under. (In my country, the legal age is 16 for women and 18 for men). I also don't support forced marriage. Forced marriage and child marriages are completely wrong. But seriously, a 19-year-old woman who is in a consented promised marriage, how could anyone have an issue with it?

Everyone in my family (except me) was married by 19 or 20 and had kids by 21 or so.

It really depends on culture though, some parents treat their kids like kids up until 18 or 19 and those people have no idea how to live as an adult so I'd say no.

Before anyone gets married they should live on their own for at least two years, so they aren't just trading parents for a spouse and treating them as such.

By own, I don't mean literally their own, could be with roommates but they need to experience life in the real world before trying to make it with someone else.

So it really depends. My grandparents and great grandparents got married even younger than that, one of them got married at 15 and 16 and was married for nearly 70 years. Of course back then, finishing high school almost never happened, people started working younger to help out the family and became adults mentally before 18.

I'm not planning on getting married anytime soon, simply because it doesn't fit into my life right now. I want to finish my education and move in with my partner and live with him for a few years before I get married to him. 26+ is our current agreement, also I'm not having kids before I'm a least thirty, I want to have had a stabile job for at least 2 years before I have children.

Back in the day with arranged marriages kids would get married off at 15. Nowadays people are living with their parents until their 30’s. Granted back in those days people died of sepsis in their 20’s. Personally I think there is something that being sheltered does to a person that hinders their personal development. Americans and Europeans have had it too good for too long and we’re stagnating ourselves into self destruction like Rome did.

I don't find anything wrong with staying home with parents. Families are meant to live together. It's about starting a new family and serving our elders. I also don't agree with the western way of life.

I agree. People go nuts if a girl is married young here but they couldn't care less or even applaud if the have sex with a bunch of strangers. This is feminism unfortunately and even most anti feminists have fallen for this nonsense.

Well, if most of the people one knows get married in their twenties they naturally will find 19 to be too young. I myself find it young as I’ll be turning 18 next year I could never ever imagine myself getting married at such young age. It's like a nightmare lol.

But that's just point of views.
There are 19 people mature and ready enough for it and others not, surely.

In my humble opinion It's a waste of youth to get married that early, but that's up to the person to decide.

Because there's more to life than just getting married young. If you ask me whether 19 is too young to get engaged? Well yes. Is it wrong? No.
The human brain gets comletely mature by 25. So 19 wouldn't be enough to think like a mature human.

In Islamic hellholes, since they don't care much about education, hygiene etc, they wouldn't mind marrying 6 year olds anyway.

6-year-olds don't get married here. 11-year-olds get married off a lot (I'm totally against that). My grandmas, aunts, and all have been married as a child. Child marriages aren't limited to Islamic countries, check out Hindu-dominated India, or Christian-dominated Brazil, who ranks 4th in this world in terms of child marriage rates. It's common across the entirety of Africa, the Middle Eastern region, Asia, and Latin America. And it's unfortunate.

Personally it’s young, however I went to school with some people that were engaged at 16 and married at 17, in fact i think one couple were married at 16.

both are still married and have kids with grandkids on the way.

People need to be mature before they get married. Everyone is different in that respect. Being a life partner is a big responsibility.
