Why are wedding speeches so cringy?

Thank God my kids already decided on not having any of that shit. For us first generation immigrants, it's an alien concept and often, the 2nd generation tries to follow these traditions thinking its so cool and necessary.

They also asked us not to do those silly graduation ceremonies where again, you have to go through that agony of speeches.

As some high school kids in our circle remarked, "are we kids that low on brains amd so incapable that our parents need to CELEBRATE our high school graduation?"

Because writing is hard and most of it is copied from someone who knows how to write (decently anyway) but their speech was good because it was for a different bride, groom and crowd of people.

And also most people are incredibly incompetent public speakers with no training.

because there is a likely chance that people do not care about your wedding. they're just pretending to be immensely happy for you. The only people who are happy is likely your parents. But everyone else is just faking it. And thats the only reason why you find it cringey.

there is sort of pressure on people to have funny stories, to thank every person involved including their pets and every relation who could not make it, including those you don’t actually like.

Because they are never impromptu. A speech that is expected to be given always sounds cheesy.. Making a speech off the cuff without rehearsing it.. THAT is how you get a good speech.. !
