Would you give/accept any other piece of jewelry other than a ring for your engagement/wedding?

Although the ring is definitely the most popular choice of jewelry to give for an engagement, in my country other forms of jewelry, such as bracelet, earrings, and nosepin are also acceptable. My brother recently got engaged and gave his fiancee a gold bracelet.

I personally wouldn't mind getting something like a nosepin or bracelet for my own engagement/wedding for practical reasons.

I'm pretty much of a traditionalist. I stuck with rings.

But there's a lot of creativity out there, and with gold so expen$ive! Maybe try one of these:

Inlaid stainless.

Zirconia on stainless - a symbolic and cute way to "tie the knot".

Stainless alloyed with different metals = different colors of stainless.

Just how the ring is traditional on your culture, gold jewelry is traditional to us and what kind of jewelry it is isn't the main factor as long as it's gold! My high school chem teacher told us a story about his friend who gave his fiancee a platinum ring but because many of her relatives were ignorant about platinum they were upset that he didn't give her gold!

(Just a note to the others who may see this. - While not quite as expensive as gold, platinum is a very expensive metal, nevertheless, and pure platinum is harder than pure gold.)
Is there a difference in the symbology if it's yellow gold or white gold? (due to differing alloy metals)

Wedding rings don’t stop people from pursuing you anymore, if it ever did. It doesn’t stop girls from cheating either. Girls will cheat with their wedding ring on, don’t even take it off. Only thing that truly solidifies marriage is the person saying they are in a committed relationship regardless of a symbol.

I never thought it. Where I live a wedding ring is the standard symbol of marriage. When people see it they immediately know if your married or engaged. With a bracelet or nose pin, people see it as normal jewelry and wouldn't think you're married.

For jewelry, I much rather a 8 dollar locket necklace than a 200 dollar ring. I would also gladly get married with a a plate full of food, I dont care if it's a slice of pizza or anything else lol.

Never really thought about it. I mean it's really just a symbol. I'm not really a jewelry person so I guess I'd be happy wearing whatever she gave to me to symbolize our love (barring face jewelry. I'm NOT going wear that)

One would have to be pretty comfortable to accept something other than a ring to mark the occasion. They might feel snubbed otherwise. Having to explain it to misunderstanding friends and family. That’s a lot.

If it was me I'd probably do a gold bracelet with mine and my partners birthstones and pay to have them like gemstone cut. So they are super sparkly.

I think a bracelet I would be happy with I don't think a thing else maybe a necklace tho. As well earrings or nose pin just doesn't feel right for me. There seems to be a bit of symbology in an engineer rign which you could keep with a bracelet and possibly a necklace as well.

The ring is a symbol that shows people are married. I wouldn't accept anything less than a ring for being married. Engagement like we are gonna get married? anything really idc even if I get something but wedding day it's a ring.
