How often do proposals fail?

Question

my brain is wondering how often propsals fail, not marriages but proposals, when a man kneels and has the ring in his hand and the girl says no 😂

Oh it happens! Long story, but it had always been on my bucket list to be a part of someone's proposal surprise and I finally got my wish so randomly a few years back at work. Guy comes in, arm full of like 2 dozen roses and a ring. I was the manager so I came to greet him at the front desk, tells me he's here to surprise propose to one of my employees. Everyone was super excited, but we're like just a knee, no, let's go big or go home. So we had an auditorium which we had an actual red carpet for for our events, so we literally rolled out the red carpet, he had a cd he had wanted to play over the PA, but that wasn't allowed, but we hooked it up in the auditorium. We closed the curtains, he hid behind them, we call the employee in, she's confused, curtain opens...and....

...she is scowling, immediately crosses her arms over her chest. We're all behind the curtains hiding reading to congratulate the couple, but it is not going well. Next thing I know from a distance I see her pointing and they start yelling, and then she's like "I KNOW YOU GUYS ARE BACK THERE!!!!" So we come out from behind the stage. She tells us she wants him gone. Turns out this guy was her EX boyfriend who could not just let it go and had been stalking her after the break up trying to get back together and this was his apparent last ditch effort to try to win her back. (YEAH, HOLY SH*T). Next thing I know I had to call security and have him and his roses escorted out, then put him on a permanent ban list (as in he shows up, police are called), and I told her I was sooooo sorry, had no clue, please take the rest of the day off. Worst proposal ever!

In other news, when my dad proposed to my mom she said no, but only because getting married to my dad meant she'd have to move to an entire new country and she just wasn't sure she could leave her family and friends behind, but they've now been married for like 47 years, so some no's do work out!

A woman I know rejected her boyfriends first 3 proposals but agreed the 4th time he asked and now they are married and have at least 3 kids.

I buy usually buy a couple of engagement rings a week, more after New Year and later on in February

I don't always know if they are estate pieces, divorced or rejected proposals even the occasional trading up
If I had to guess probably like 5% of what I buy are rejected proposals

That's probably fairly rare. Usually by the time the formal proposal happens there is tacit agreement.

I have no idea what the numbers are. I only know of one time when the girl said no. It was not that she did not want to marry the guy, she was wanting to get her master's first. This happened almost 30 years ago. She tried for close to 10 years to get him to commit, then broke it off. He then moved from Georgia to Ohio and she met and married a Dentist. The Dentist was cheating on her and as I understand the story has given her several STDs as well as Hepatitis. She did finally divorce him. While living in Ohio this man met and married a girl and they had 2 children. Then back around 2013, they moved from Ohio to Georgia, and within 3 or 4 years she developed cancer and died. This guy raised his kids and they are living their own lives now. The strange part was this girl never finished her master's program. Life has beat them both up, I sometimes wonder what would have happened if she has said yes. Strange world we live in!

I've turned down 2 proposals in my life...👀

One of them was from a stranger on the street who wanted a green card🤣 but we dont have those here in Sweden lol I guess he didn't understand that... and the other one eh..

Not too sure, but I feel whoever us doing the proposing should know if they're ready for it if there's communication in the relationship.

I would have presumes that they've talked about marriage, a family and all of that...

I think nowadays, most guys know if the girl want to get married. Maybe the old-fashioned days they didn’t know. Buy nowadays most everybody knows and they can tell that’s why when they’re ready they get the ring

I think usually it won't. Come on guys you have pretty good idea how your relationship is going. If things are bad or not so good then you know she's is gonna say "no"

Yeah they sometimes do fail. Like the time I asked that hot waitress to marry me between the entree and dessert courses and she turned me down. Cheesh! I mean I think I put in the time! I knew her for at least an hour by then. Girls... so picky!!!

See, you need to talk to her enough and spend enough time around each other that you already know the answer before you ask. These guys who just have no clue what she'll say are doing it wrong.
