I had long term relationships from the time I was 16, but I had no intention of getting married and wasn't interested in kids. I didn't think about finding a life partner and settling down until I was in my early 30s. I had a couple more long term relationships. The last one was wonderful. I loved that woman with my heart and soul, but we wouldn't have been able to make it as life-long partners.

I met my future wife when I was 40 and she was 37. We got married two years later. I'm glad we did. We've been happily married now for over 26 years, have had a LOT of fun and build a wonderful life together. She's wonderful. I would be lonely and miserable without her.

Marriage should be the end result of finding the right person, not the goal in and of itself. Too many people get married to whomever is available right now, then they are surprised years later when it doesn't work out.
