There can be a few reasons why some guys let their wives control things in a marriage:

- Laziness - Sometimes dudes just don't want to have to make decisions or be responsible. It's easier to let the wife take charge of stuff.

- Fear of confrontation - If a guy disagrees with his wife, it could lead to an argument. Some guys don't like conflict so they go along to get along.

- Lack of self-confidence - Deep down, the guy doesn't feel very manly or sure of himself. Letting the wife control makes him feel protected in a way.

- Tradition - Some men genuinely think it's the husband's role to provide financially but the wife's role to run the household. Even if they're not fully happy with it.

- Pick your battles - On smaller things, it's not worth the fight to a guy. As long as he still feels respected otherwise, he can compromise.

- Grew up seeing it - If his parents' marriage was super traditionally female-led, that could be the norm he thinks relationships operate by too.

Ultimately it's a sign of weakness to totally let a woman be the boss, in my opinion. A relationship works best with equal partnership and respect on both sides.

I don't think every wife controls the marriage. It may be something going on behind the scenes, maybe the husband trusts the wife to do these things. Maybe the husband doesn't want to contribute. Maybe the wife doesn't let the husband do anything. Whatever it is, not everyone does this.

There should be equal parts involved unless someone in the marriage stated otherwise or if they had a conversation about it.

Regarding the modern Western culture, these men are either lazy and uninterested, masochists who like the pain (especially if they allow their wives to have absolute control over money) or unaware of the dangers. However, I heard that in Japan, it's simply optimization. They supposedly work such long hours and are so tired that they are unable to efficiently deal with anything else than work. I think it's believeable, as it used to be quite similar in traditional Western culture.
