Why are wives so controlling?

Oh, yeah. That would make sense too. I've definitely seen it when people bring their significant other out with friends they tend to feel pressured into being more responsible so they feel like they couldn't have as much fun or act as freely as they'd like to. Maybe y'all could try to plan a night out when the wife is out with her own friends/working? Or maybe sit her down, try to explain to her that you guys need/want some guy time without girls around. I don't know how understanding she is but some people just don't understand that people need space from the relationship to spend time with friends.

Yeah, exactly that! And no I probably wouldn't bring them along to a girls night. If it was a normal hangout then I'd ask if they could be invited but normally no. I might text them periodically throughout the night if I miss them or I might just wait until I see them to tell them how much I enjoyed the night as a little bonding moment.

It's healthy to give your spouse time/space to themselves. It's also healthy to create time/space for your spouse to miss you. It actually deepens/strengthens relationships when people are allowed to live their own lives separate from the relationship. It builds trust, love, communication, happiness, freedom, independence, etc. There's been plenty of scientific studies as well as relationship studies which support that. You could use that as a leading argument if your friend/wife is willing to have that conversation.
