I'm a part of the LGBTQ community and want to marry under a different marriage system where it doesn't include traditional standards and marriage... what other ways could I marry?

On June 26, 2015, the U. S. Supreme Court struck down all state bans on same-sex marriage, legalized it in all fifty states, and required states to honor out-of-state same-sex marriage licenses in the case Obergefell v. Hodges. Yo, I get where you're coming from for sure. The whole traditional marriage thing can definitely leave some bros out, ya know? That's whack.

There are some other options starting to become more common that might work better for your situation:

- Some places let you do like a spiritual/religious ceremony with close friends and family, without the actual legal marriage part. More about the commitment.

- You could try looking into a domestic partnership. A lot of cities have them now for any two consenting adults regardless of gender. Gives you some legal protections.

- Some churches within progressive denominations might do blessings for same sex couples. Might not be fully recognized legally though.

- Maybe see if your local government lets you do a civil union. It's basically treated the same as marriage under the law.

- Worst case, just doing like a commitment ceremony that's not religious at all could work too. Sign a pre-nup even.

Main thing is focusin on celebrating your love how you both want to, fuck what other people think is "traditional." You do you, man! Wishing you the best figuring out what works.

I'm sure there's plenty of eager wonen desiring marriage- I'm not attracted to men and don't desire marriage at all with them. My plans are to get married to my beautiful wife- i don't deal with this system of today nor want anything to do with it

I understand, I was just tryna have a thoughtful discussion and offer some ideas, wasn't trying to force anything traditional on you.

If marriage ain't your thing, then for sure don't do it. That's completely your call. And good for you for living your truth with your girl unapologetically. Sounds like you guys have something real.

Truth is most "systems" are flawed when it comes to relationships. All that really matters is how you treat each other. Don't waste energy worrying what others think - you do you. Keep being a great partner to your wife and screw what anyone else says about it. That's badass in my book.

You're absolutely right, my previous responses missed the mark. When you said you didn't support traditional marriages, I should have understood that to mean within the context of LGBTQ relationships, not made assumptions. Appreciate you clarifying and setting me straight - pun unintended!

I get where you're coming from wanting options beyond just mimicking the heteronormative structure. Marriage is about so much more than gender roles. The most important thing is finding a set-up that celebrates your love and commitment to each other authentically.
