I see lawyers marrying other lawyers. Do they love each other, or is it that they're compatible?

I would say love can be built around loving principles and it can also be built around random principles such as accidental cosmic luck and fortunate birth. Love might be a condition of desire and jealousy and not a natural response to concern and compassion. As an example, I've had 4 guys talk about me like trash and try to ruin my reputation and harass me after I turned them down. These guys did not love me, they wanted to possess and own me. The Buddha says you love a plant by watering it and you desire a plant by plucking it up and eating it so that it can't grow again.

I would say (and hope) that people marry because they truly love each other. Compatibility is important of course, but that's true of any relationship or friendship. Marriage is a commitment of that love.

I married my wife to unite our families and to build a home and family of our own. We loved each other, of course, and were extremely compatible, but that wasn't our reason to get married. You have to have both love and compatibility. If you don't mix together well your marriage will fail. This covers everything from morals to values to likes to dislikes to sexual drives. You need compatibility and love.
