I didn't really have mine rehearsed but I've always been an improviser. Mainly my two key points I wanted to get across is that I finally have enough money saved after looking into homes in Kyushu to purchase one without a mortgage. Then ask my wife's hand in marriage.

So one night I told her about the house, showed her pictures of it, told her I want to move there. Then she did something I didn't expect at all and got on one knee jokingly and asked my hand in marriage since she got so excited about the house.

That threw off my whole game plan! So I told her, "Hmm, I'll think about it." Her: "What? I just proposed marriage to you! 'You'll think about it?'" She was laughing but genuinely getting a bit cranky while I was like, "Well, you know, that's a big lifelong decision! I shouldn't rush it. Let me go play some video games now."

So I started playing some video games in front of her and I think she was genuinely getting cranky. Then finally I turned it off and said, "Oh, I almost forgot." Then I pulled out the engagement ring and got on one knee and proposed.

I did it privately in my apartment while she was staying there with me. I never believed in the grandiose spectacle type of proposal since I didn't want to pressure her to say, "yes". I want as little pressure as possible.

After she agreed though, I made a grand celebration in front of our friends and sang Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" on stage (horribly) while dedicating it to my wife-to-be.
